Why can't my Key open the trunk? Is there a Valet Switch? Right now I use my Door release from inside or the Key remote from out of the car. But with my electrical problems {See Other Post) How would I get in? Both of my methods are Electrical.

there is a switch on you trunk.. when you open it look down where the latch is.. its a metal piece that moves back and forth. your key should open your trunk..(are you useing the right key???) oil it up a little and see what happens......

Does the key turn? I just worked on a car with the same problem. The rod which connects the key cyl. 2 the latch fell off. Worth taking a look.

Usually people ask why they can't open the trunk with the trunk release from inside and wicked's reply would answer that question. I've never heard of the key not being able to open the trunk.

have you been using the valet key? I don't think that key won't open the trunk or glovebox...

Oh boy, be careful of the advice you're giving wicked1044!! That would be the advice for the exact opposite problem - if he could get in with only the key. If his key doesn't work now and he does move the switch as you recommended, he can not get in at all!!

I was thinking of that too....

He starts out with only being able to open it with the button and not the key...

Then he goes in to flip that lever, slams it shut, now it wont open with ANYTHING! :O

Crap, I hate when that happens!

Good luck with it, and don't follow any advice on HERE too closely!!!

Re: Re: Careful!!

**** i'm giving suggestions... *****

I understand that, but you are giving suggestions that could hurt him! A suggestion that just doesn't help is one thing but a suggestion that does harm is quite another. Don't you agree?

***** also i said he might be useing the wrong key..***

That's fine, that's a suggestion that will have no harm.

***** i also told him to check the swich to see if its in the right position.......*****

I KNOW you did!!! And this was where you risked locking him out of his trunk (short of going through the armrest fold-down and using a long stick)!! And what do you mean 'check to see if it's in the right position'?, lol, we KNOW what position it's in by the fact he can remotely open it!!

Anyway, my whole point is, if you aren't quite sure on a topic, it's probably better to not offer advise. Just be careful.

If you take out rear plastic cover in the trunk there is a switch inside the locking mechanism, move it up or down and you disable/enable key or remote control.
Alex.

"KEY OR"???

Alex, go read your owners manual again, it does NOT control KEY use, only button on the door and remote. If it did both, you could not get in there at all.

My advice is to find a shop that can fix it and *stop* reading this NG!

There is a "valet" key that comes with the car. It is the key without the black plastic on it. The valet key does not unlock the trunk or the glovebox. Are you using the silver valet key?

Yeah, the total lack of lurking on this NG is near criminal. On July the 22nd we're due AGAIN, to be asked the neverending question

"how can I make my back windows go down all the way"?

Funny, before you asked the Q, I thought you were gonna say that you plan to defeat the switch. That'd be a plan! I'd hate to have it flipped and have no way to open it.

Yup. All of it. Here it is:

So, the thread was started with this Q:

"Why can't my Key open the trunk?"

And THAT is your answer? WTF does the LEVER have to do with the KEY not working???? Hmmmmmmm????

Save your rep, and drop it now! In a battle of wits you are unarmed!

Please STOP embarrassing yourself

Man, I'm embarrassed for you! Just stop already.

*********
did you even read the post???
he asked if ther was a switch and i lead him to one...
*********

No he didn't!!! Where do you see that?! He asked why his key doesn't work. If the remote unlocking works and only the key doesn't work, then you gave him the WRONG (and possibly harmful) advice. Admitt it and stop fighting it. Period.

*********
then i went on to tell him to see if he had the right key and then to oil up the key hole to loosen it up a little...
*********

Like I said before, that's perfectly good (and safe) advise, we aren't arguing that. You just shouldn't have told him to flick his switch when we knew his remote entries were working for him. It's not like one setting allows for remote and one for key, it's one for remote and key and another for just key. The key works in both settings so his key not working had nothing to do with the switch you brought up. Nothing. Don't you understand that?

************
jacksmax is a punk...

He seems like a pretty cool guy to me.

************
p-head your new around here and i don't think you want to be on Wickeds bad side...
************

LOL, LOL. Ooooooooh, so scared. I wouldn't want that - tough guy! Jack, should I run?
lol Thanks for the laugh, you're commidy man.

************
i have my rear shaved
************

Do you really? Sweet, I've never met anyone else who has done it. That's cool.

No offense, but this is even worse! So you are well aware of the switch and its functions and the harm it can cause and you STILL gave the advice you gave? Doesn't make sense.

**************
and have a cover over the switch so it cannot be hit by mistake.
**************

I was thinking about that too! That's a good idea. What did you use?

O.k. guys, it's been fun and entertaining but this is getting old. Think we can stop now?

Hey MegaMax. I'm glad you asked this question. The other week my neighbour was looking at my car and attempted to use the key to open the trunk. However, just like you, he couldn't open it with the key. I've had the car since January, and I've always used the remote button or trunk release from inside. The key has the black head!

...

he asked if there was a switch..

**** He asked if there was a VALLET switch.

i lead him to one.. i never said touch it..

**** Yeah, but you didn't say NOT to touch it which I find very wrong. Especially when you knew his remote and inside truck release were working and you are very familar with the operation of the switch. So you knew if he moved it, it would move into the key-only postion. Which you firther knew wouldn't open the trunk!!! Be careful.

anyways p-head you are starting to sound like a d!ck.

**** I'm looking out for MegaMax and anyone else who would be getting info. from this post. I don't want anyone to get locked out of their trunk. I'm sorry if you take that as being a ****.

you don't know jack.

**** You're right, I don't. But I can tell he knows his stuff about the switch in the trunk and is looking out for MegaMax's best interest just as I am.

should you be scared of wicked??? only if we meet...

**** Grow up man.

i hate when new guys talk ****.....

**** Who said I'm new? I've been here since Feb. 2000.

I didn't get a valet key from the previous owner so I don't know if it has a black head also. I did have one made and it is a different key blank. There are two parallel grooves that run down each side of the key. On the valet key, they are about 1/32" apart, on the regular key they are about 3/32" apart.
