I went to my Mechanic yesterday to check on the rear engine seal that i replaced a little over a month ago and when he lifted the car i noticed some oil again. The oil is coming from around the shifter bushing area. The rear seal is OK and so are the axles. I've done a little research and i believe I've found the problem but am not to sure. From what i saw the oil is coming from the Striking rod oil seal. Does anyone know if this part is inexpensive and if this is the only thing can actually leak in that area? I searched pinnacle Nissan along with a few other sites like that and i wasn't able to find anything about this seal. I also checked out Napa and couldn't find it.

So I'm wondering if this is the part that's actually leaking (striking rod oil seal) and if this is the only thing can leak around the shifter bushing area. I suppose the dealer should have this right? Thanks for the help I'm a when it comes to standard shift.

P.S. I found a Steering gear & linkage seal kit maybe this is what i need? I'm totally lost.

If you checked BOTH differential oil seals then the strike rod oil seal is probably. It could be the o ring on your VSS though, but that is on the top of the differential so your tranny would have to be really full to be leaking there.

The part number is for the strike rod oil seal is 32858-03E00 which is 7.74 from pinnacle nissan.

Also, go to the I30 section of the forum and go to the I30 5spd FSM sticky. That will show you how to replace the seal. Its pretty easy.

Cool, Thanks for the help. If anyone else can just clarify that it is the striking rod seal.

Edit: That part number doesn't come out as anything.

The only one that can actually 100% verify that is the strike rod is you.

And that part number does come out as something just it type into their parts locator.

yeah my fault i found the seal on the site. Meh i'll order it anyway it's only 7 bucks. I guess now would be the time to get the urethane shifter bushing also.

Ive had the same problem. At least I can take it back to my mechanic and have them fix it right.

Given how cheap the seal is, and that you can replace it on the car, I would start with that.

it's cool you guys brought up this thread again. I have an update.

So i changed the Striking rod oil seal with the boot. I also bought the urethane shifter bushing from Larrio here on the org. Everything feels wonderfull. The shifter bushing made a big difference, it feels more precise and i love the clicks it makes when you put it in gear. I also bought a razo shift **** today which weights 340grams (it's pretty damn heavy) but it's also a great investment. All i'm missing is the B&M STS which is coming soon.

Can anyone verify if there is a difference in part numbers for the driver side diff oil seal on a 93 for cars with limited slip and cars without limited slip? some parts places are saying that there is and they have different prices but the dealer is saying that there isn't..

The oil seal on the driver side is different on the 4th gens. The VLSD oil seal is much larger.

Not sure about your '93'. If you provide a VIN I could pull the actual nissan part numbers. (PM is fine for the VIN)

Well the pn's I have for a VLSD M/T car are:
pass side: 38342-81X01
driver side: 38342-51E00
That's for cars with a build date of 07/91 to 05/95.

In this case it doesn't look like the VIN is necessary.
