swirl valves
so i just changed my knock sensor in about 30 minutes. i was thrilled. i cleared the codes and started the car up and hit the throttle and noticed the swirl valves werent activating over 3200 rpm so said heck with it ill jam them open they are killin me neway. with the swirl valves open you get NO power at all im talkin jam the gas and the car goes no where. so i un jammed the swirl valves and hit the throttle again..mind you they werent damaged when i held them open....no swirl activation....pulled the hose off the actuator and no vaccum when i rev it up past 3200.. it worked before any idea why its not activating or what i can look for ?

I was having a problem with mine i was getting swirl valve code and knock sensor so me and buddy took all that stuff out upper im and lowwer im and I notticed my swirl was kinda jammed not freely moving up and down so I kept pumpping it and I got it to hold pressure, I would just put my finger over the stem valve on the swirl to see if the valves would hold and they kept getting better as I pumped it by hand, tell it would full hold the valves so try that. After that I reinstalled it and it seems to be working great so far.
I was going to install the 2000 swirl but it was a tad different so i ddin't

From what you described happened when you thought you jamed them open sounds like you actually jamed them closed.
The swirl valves only operate when the engine is cold. Vacuum at the actuator is what closes them. No vacuum and they remain open. When they are operating, normally when you first start the car in the morning, you can rev the engine to about 3K RPM's and they will open up to give your intake the ability to breath if and when it needs to even while the engine is still cold.

yup i fixed it....it starts at the throttle body then to the vaccumm canister thru a one way valve then to the actuator solenoid (green plug ) then to the vaccum solenoid if anyone wants a schematic ill be glad to post one for org referance on how the swirls work....
