95 maxima running very rough

whatup fellas...

just today my maxima started running very very rough. for some reason misfiring came to mind? i dont even know what that means tho.

so a few minutes after i noticed this...i checked my codes...nothing.

i took the resisitor off my knock sensor harness....got a knock sensor code. (already knew about it, hence the bypass)

put the resistor back on...no codes. knock sensor doesnt seem liek it would be the problem to me, in that ive been running 93 gas the whole time and the knock sensor simply prevents lower octane gas from causing knock. bypassing the sensor makes the car think everything is fine...which it is in that ive been using the high grade gas.

took it to two guys, both initially said spark plugs. by the way, i have had difficulty starting it as well...it turns over and fires but doesnt catch till like the third time and finally starts up. agian...seems spark pluggish.

any help would be great.

Sound like you need a nice tuneup.

Change the Plugs, Clean the IACV, Clean the Throttle Body, Change the Fuel Filter, Change the Air Filter, and Do an Oil Change

All that can be done by yourself, in about 2 hours for less than $50

Usually if the IACV is dirty that means the TB is also just as dirty. If you stop at a light and the idle suffers a bit and dips below and then recovers, thats probably telling you to clean the IACV and TB.

Cleaning the IACV is pretty simple. One 10mm bolt holding a bracket onto the IACV, and 3-12mm bolts holding the IACV to the Intake manifold.

i did this to my moms 04 caravan and it worked beautifully...

see if you can get an oil presure reading if you dont have a gauge for that already. make sure the oil isnt too thin or water like in texture. it should have the texture of motor oil. do the oil change yourself. if you dont know how to do it its the easiest thing in the world. spend the xtra money and get a really good quality oil and a quality filter if you dont already. also get this stuff called slick 50. add the slick 50 to the oil before you pour it into the engine.

my moms car had the same symptoms plus it was knocking real bad. after i did this, it purred like a kitten.

got the spark plugs changed.

no different. thing is shuddering like you wouldnt believe.

PS...im beginning to question the codes posted on this website. because i looked through the customer service tickets from work done at the dealership, and they used 0325 as the knock sensor code. its listed as 0304 on here.

i re-installed the knock sensor and am getting the 3 long blinks, 4 short blinks code (knock sensor).

i was talking to a guy at the dealership, and he said that its a ghost code (already knew that). but wouldnt something this serious be throwing a code??? doesnt a misfire throw a code?? im so lost and dont want to get raped with repair costs.

ya know...the more i think about this, the more pissed off i get.

shouldnt my damn car be throwing a code??? since it feels like im in a goddam earthquake.

COULD the knock sensor be the culprit?

it just seems weird that the problem would occur when i had it bypassed, and remain after i re-connected it.

i feel like there was a 30% drop in power across the band, and like just this massive shudder everywhere.

ps...i was thinking of making a 75 mile trip to AC this weekend. 150 miles total. bad idea?

I too have the same symptoms where the car is runining very rough. Like it's not fireing on all cyliners. Checked the codes, got the 0304 (Knock-sensor). Replaced it, old one was cracked, but still runs rough.

Checked the resistance and it appears to be within the normal range. 554k ohms. The service manual says to also check the connection back to the ECM, but I'm trying to figure out where the ECM harness connection is.

This too is a 95 maxima. Does the ECM/ECU register mis-fires? I talked to one mechanic when this first started and he wasn't sure since the system is OBD-I.
