I was so frustrated when I came out and saw this, I stood in the pouring rain just staring because supposedly the store isn't responsible for the damage, at least for employees, such as myself. It hit so hard that the cart bounced off and fell over. Thats what happens when a cart flies across an entire parking lot and slams into your door. Not the greatest pic but they're all through the paint and the dents are 1/2 inch deep and theres a big collective dent about an inch deep. anyways.. I'm gonna go try to have some fun, later.

Oh and happy 4th.

no business will EVER EVER EVER do ANYTHING for you as far as damage incurred in its parking lot. that's why i always park as far away as i possibly can... and if i see any shopping carts floating around in the same aisle as my car, i move them myself. it's not 100% insurance, but it definitely helps. i refuse to park next to other cars, too, unless i know the driver personally (or absolutely can't avoid it, in which case i try to park on the end of an aisle, and as far away from the neighboring car as i can... i WILL drive for 10 minutes to find a good spot if i have the time).

but yeah, that sucks.

I work for a large wholesale store, and I have told the GM before when I have been told I am parking in the wrong parking spot, "I don't care if I am an employee here or not, if my car gets hit my a cart, sctracted, and broken into, I will see to it that this store pays for it, weather or not I lose my job" and he said all right.

Forgive me for my boldness,

It 'appears' that you were nailed by more than a floating (25mph, hardly verifiable) grocery cart. It makes me wonder if it wasn't crushed into your car by another vehicle. I wondered this, especially when you mentioned the 'collective' dent! It looks more to me like the cart was pinned against your fine ride!

As for responsibility, that store needs to pay. ESPECIALLY if your an employee and required to be there! Sure, you'll have a fight on your hands, but it may be worth it. Someone has insurance to cover that parking lot!

I wish you the best!! Now go get them!!!!!

exactly.. nah but it was a shopping cart and your right it was doing more than 25mph and I have witnesses to it hitting so hard and it falling over otherwise I wouldnt assume.. thanks though and boldness is a good thing no need for an apology. and those dents are from the wires welded to make the cart, and the fact that the Maxima door is curved like it is made for a surface for all wires to hit and leave their mark and dont you worry if I can I'll get a whole new door and if not then just an entire new panel, repainted.

So do you know who did it?

Fixing damage left by a hit/run vandal is sad and unfortunate. But in your case they clearly did it deliberately.

The good news is it appears your damage is completely confined to the door panel. It will be relatively easy to buy a good panel, get it painted to match, and bolt it in. In fact, I'd make money on it by doing everything but the painting myself and pocketing the balance of cash.

I had that happen with my first car, a 1982 Trans Am. It was a piece of sh|t, but I loved it I come out of the parking lot after work, at KMart (don't joke, I was 16) and I see a shopping cart speeding toward my car. I sprint across the lot to reach it in time, to no avail. It was like slow motion.

"nnnoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" *BAM*

It was dent-free before that

yeah I can see some others have had like incidents.. thing is you guys keep mentioning "vandals or ppl who did it." Its more like the cart was sitting out in the lot for a while, then the wind picked up like mad before a huge thunderstorm and threw that cart into the side of my car..

You should complain to the people who are supposed to be out there retrieving the carts. It's their job, they should do it! I always move any carts that are remotely near my car.

That really sucks, but if you handle it right you can get it taken care of by the business. Years ago, I had a shopping cart do some damage to the side of my car while I was in the grocery store working. There were signs in the parking lot stating that owner was not responsible for cart damage. I went to the store manager after obtaining estimate for repair and he said "NO WAY!" I did not get mad or ignorant with him. I went home and wrote a letter to the owners of the grocery store chain. Surprisingly about three days later the manager called me in his office and said he reconsidered. He wrote me a check on the spot for the cost of repairs.

Handle it professionally and keep climbing the ladder until someone gives you the answer you want. Good luck!!

I hope your parking lot did not have the sign "park at your own risk" on it.

Yea if you spin it right you can get it replaced. When i had my 3000GT VR-4 i was doing 5-7 mph around the mall parking lot and a cart came out of nowhere and literally took the passenger side mirror off the car. The mall manager/company whatever paid for the damage because the cart shoudnt have been loose when theres that many cart attendees.

just be professional

OUCH!! Sorry to hear that!

I should have been working there. At the grocery store I work at, one of the baggers didnt show up that day so they would call me up front from grocery to get the carts. Also it was really windy that day and there was a 4th gen maxima just like mine in the parking lot and I saw this cart darting toward it and I was like f*ck no!! So I sprint as fast as I could and dive to get the cart out of they way and save the maxima from being hit .

Isn't this what comprehensive insurance is for? Like when you hit a deer or a flying rock cracks your windshield?

Most businesses with shopping carts post legal disclaimers saying they are not responsible for damage by shopping carts.
