Can you run with a bad knock sensor without hurting the car?

I've got a 99 Maxima that has a P0325 Knock Sensor code. I've seen several DIYs for replacing the KS, but I can't seem to get at it. The pressure regulator is blocking access to reach under the manifold. The DIYs do not mention anyhting about having to removing this to get at the knock sensor, but there is physically no way to fit my hand anywhere near the KS (I have relatively skinny hands too). I can't even see into the engine bay where the KS is supposed to be because the pressure regulator is blocking my view. Has anyone who has swapped out their KS had to remove this?

Just bought mine off E-Bay for $62 and OEM part still sealed in Nissan Box. Checked resistance before instaliing and that checked good. Running Car without or bad knock wil not harm your car. The ECU will default to a "Safe Table" for timing advance. This will result in crappy gas milage, slight shutter with the car in drive and at idle and some other minor items. Gonga.. Not really sure what to say? I just replaced mine this evening. I used a 1/4 inch 12mm socket, u-joint, 3/8 to 1/4 inch conversion and a 9 inch extension. I also had a Magnetic toolavailable to help get the bolt out after loosening and putting bolt in. It took a little fanageling but I got it changed. No pressure regulator in the way. I have a 97 Maxima se. I couldn't get my hand in there either

use a long rachet with a rotating type of tip (i forget what its called). 12 inches should be long enough to reach it really good.

get to it with that, get a magnite handy so if it drops.

a girls hand or a small childs hand will have to reach it, if you try with hands. sometimes they will get scrapes, but larger hands will get gashes and blood rushing.

getting it back in is a pain in the rear unless you have small hands.

Taking the IM off provides for a much more complete job (i.e.e ease of installation and meeting tq specs)
