engine bay cleaning
my engine bay is dirty as *****. i mean real dirty.
i was at a car wash yesterday...one where you get a hose power washer and like 8 options of cleaning fluid, and one was engine bay cleaner.
im just wondering what the best way to clean ones engine bay is.

Avoid spraying the battery and alternator, and wash away. Just be sure to not use any high pressure options, since the electrical connectors are designed to handle splash exposure, but not pressure.

might wanna bag the intake and any electricals (relays, distributors etc.) if using a pressure washer; or if ur using a garden hose u can be careful to just go around the electricals.
U can also find the same stuff as u find in a can of engine degreaser in a can of oven cleaner. Only diff is oven cleaner is 0.99$ while the engine degreaser is like 3 time as much. In any case, do a test spray (esp around brake fluid resv.) to make sure paint doesnt peel off.
make sure not to wipe off the headlight grease tho

buy engine block cleaner (its like less than 8 dollars at pep boys) take plastic bags and cover all the electrical wires (and other places that you dont want water on or to get into like your intake)
spray the engine block cleaner on the engine, let it sit, and use a brush to wipe away the dirt and grime
then use a hose (no attachments) and gently just wash the crap off your engine and you should be good to go!

Go to car quest buy the car quest brand engine degreaser go home while the engine is hot shut the motor off, and spray it with degreaser and let it set for about 20 minutes, then hook a long garden hose up to your washing machine hot water outlet if you can and run outside and start the engine and leave it running while you hose everything off including the alternator but not the intake. i do it to mine every few months and have never had a problem.
