Retrofit Disaster

well its my fault for being a dumb a$$ and not checking the housings before jumping into the project to see if they were all alike.... but i had a set of old 96 headlights laying around and fitted retros into them perfectly but didnt get as far into as painting them, etc.. but when i was looking at my 97 headlights which i planned on taking those clear lenses and putting them onto the 96 housings.. THEY WERE DIFFERENT LENSES.... so im out 1 pair of headlights even tho i havent touched the ones on my car... but my questions are........

1) is there anyway in hell to clear the 96 glass housing
2) any companies that make clear 96 lenses
3) any other damn suggestions

thanks guys... no flaming!

I believe you've got to purchase the whole assembly.
good luck.

Buy a pair of headlights on ebay that are new? I assume they are pretty cheap ($130?) and just swap the glass. It's better than throwing out a $200 project. Or...sell your set? And then do another one properly? I dunno...good going though...lol.

did I miss something? Are you saying that the lenses are different in size? and the 97 one didn't fit the 96?

correct.. the 96's are shorter in height and the glass is smaller in sticking out length, while the 97 is opposite.. taller and lense sticks out further... all in all im sure they look the same when on the vehicle but the *uckers dont fit each other...

i might do em over but idk yet.. im pist bc i wasted a perfectly good set of 96 headlights

95-95 headlights are different in shape than 97-99 so you can't swap the lens, I kinda found out the hard way too. Check hidplanet.com there was a guy that had a jeep cherokee with the fluted lens and he sanded it til it was clear, I was impressed how it came out, after you see what he did it makes it seem like you can retrofit any light no matter what. It was probably alot of sanding though with a sander and compressor (NOT by hand).

I also ran into this, I had maxgtr2000 retro my 97-99 housings and then I purchased the 95-96 clear glass headlights with hopes of just transfereing the lenses,.. NOPE.
So I had to install the retro setup into the 95-96 housings which are a bit tighter then the 97-99 housings.
So if you want to have clear lenses for the 95-96's buy the new glass ones off ebay.
