Transmission overhaul - I have extra dowel pin

We are doing a complete overhaul of my transmission. Everything has gone smoothly up until now.

We have 3 dowel pins and 2 holes for them to go into. All three are identical and two are definately for the transmission to bell housing mate. Does anyone know where the third pin goes? Thanks

I have a pic of the transmission case with the two pins in place an the third one just sitting on the case next to one of them. The pic can be seen at;

Check the engine side, right about 3" above the passenger axle seal.

Why did you remove them in the first place? I've never removed one and they've never come loose either.

It could go there. I found a spot or it. The fit is rather tight but it will probably go with some light hammering. If a dowel pin is supposed to go go in that untapped hole, then the dowel I have has got to be the one that goes in there.

Just make sure there isn't a dowel pin on the engine at that spot

IIRC there are only two dowels between the halves of the tranny housing. But I don't have one apart at the moment to check.
