Great!!! Engine Knocking!!!

I checked the ecu, i have no error codes. when i turn on the car it knocks loud for like 3 sec, then it goes into a very light steady knocking. When i press the gas i hear the engine rev, but the knocking will stay at the same pace and very low, but sometimes it will Knock with the engine when i press the gas. I dont know what to do!

Didn't want to revive a really dead thread, but my car starting doing this today when I went to start it. I went to start it like I always do before I leave for work cranked it RPM's dropped to like 200 and a nice loud knocking sound started. hopped in drove around couldn't hear it anymore. I hope it's nothing pricey

sounds like you might have piston slap

that doesn't sound good.

did some searching doesn't sound like that. I haven't ever opened the motor or anything. It doesn't sound like something common on these motors

is your oil level good? with the RPM dipping it sounds like something pressure related maybe

i know when i blew my tranny i drove it one last time a week later and just then the engine started knocking, crank was already bad but i guess the engine cooked a bearing and caused it. it would piston slap maybe one out of 50 starts mornings too for 3 seconds, just SLAPSLAPSLAP and that was it

Now I'm afraid to drive. Oil is good I've never seen an oil light come on. Before I had rough idle that was the MAF, Cleaned that drove good. Let it set over the weekend and this happens. When it happened this morning I let it run for like 5 minutes drove and it stopped.
I need to have someone poke it anymore ideas would be helpful.

if it still knocks i would maybe not drive it until you can get it looked at. its a knock and not a ticking right?

Get a stethoscope, or hell even a length of vacuum tubing and place one side on various parts of the motor and the other end to your ear, you will be able to pin point the noise. I would say its timing chain related though.

dude, i bought my 95 6 and a half years ago and it was doing the same thing. have'nt done a thing but make sure the engine oil is fresh and add bg moa to the oil which quiets it down. i have 225,000 and she still rattles away, hot and cold. its not as loud in the warmer weather thought.

Immediate:
Put the car up on axle stands or ramps, get under it and drain the oil into an open container. Inspect the oil for metallic debris and also the sump plug. If you see gray metal for instance, that's a very bad sign. A certain amount of filings on a magnetic sump plug is normal, but the bottom of the pan should be reasonably clear. If that all looks OK, replace with fresh oil and try a commercial high viscosity additive - I used to have a Villager (gen 3 motor) that rattled like hell, I got a $10 bottle of stuff from the Zone and it worked like a charm quietening it down. If the rattle persists after that, I vote timing chain side.
