Picture Time, not for the faint of heart (56k)

Alright, this thread is addressing my: Is my car lowered? question, as well as my suspension setup, and a couple other questions regarding my air intake.

The last person who owned this maxima made some modifications and now that I'm interested in cars, specifically maximas, I want to learn what I can and upgrade the car. But I need to know where I am before I can know where I'm going.

Here we go, Air Intake pictures:

(That hole below the air intake, is that supposed to be there? do I need to fill it in or something?)

With the way the Air Intake is setup, is that air duct from the front necessary? It doesn't go to anything, only that empty hole in the first picture.

Suspension pictures:

Can you tell if its lowered?

Front, Tokico's?

Rear

Exhaust:

This is a Nakayama Racing Sports Muffler and Tip it seems, I couldn't find the part online and from the looks of it the person only replaced that part of the exhaust, but I have to wait to get it up higher to look at the rest of the exhaust piping.

Those look like stocker springs.

Let me get this straight though, you ask us if the car is lowered and then DON'T show a picture of the car/wheelgap/stance?

Sorry, I had pictures on a different thread asking about the lowered part, and they wanted pictures of the suspension, I'll just take the pictures and put them over here...

no you dont need to fill that hole ur talking about. The car needs to be lowered weather its lowered .5in now or not..hard to tell with the shadows but I would say no its not.. but the back looks lower than stock. go ahead and grab a set of coilovers and dont ever worry about ur lowering needs again : ) def get a good cleaning under the hood.

Looks like you got Tokico Blue's. Hard to tell about the springs. Judging by the stance, (its a leeeeeetle bit high) they are stock. I'm not sure why anyone would do that though...
As far as that plastic ducting, take that crap out. And if you have the engine on and feel air going into that hole below the air filter, it needs to be plugged. You dont want dirt/dust/debris bouncing up in there and getting into the engine, and I believe it's Murphy's Law that states that will happen. It is hard to tell with the angle on the first picture though. But it does look like that is a connector for the plastic resonator/intake ducting.

Yeah that was my concern about the duct, but after inspecting it, it serves no purpose at all, just a duct that routes air to nowhere besides below the air intake. Like I said, I bought the car like this and am just trying to figure out what they did to it.

tokico blues are almost a direct replacement for OEM struts.

Yeah the tip is a Nakayama Racing Sports thing? Idk, the last person just tipped it and thats it, eventually I'm going to redo it with a greddy sp I think.

And the color is great, but there's little dings and small dents you can't see very well unless you get up close that I need to detail like crazy. I hand waxed (Turtle wax) her yesterday and found them all =( among sap on the hood (damn street parking).

So a coilover kit with lowering springs are what I need to get her down a few inches?

btw, thanks for all the feedback

Usually when people refer to a coilover kit for a Maxima application they are talking about one of the higher priced, higher performance setups such as: D2 Racing, KSport, Tein, and JIC Magic. These kits come with dampers and springs that are made for each other and allow for an adjustable ride height.

Looks-wise all you NEED are spring to drop your car, but the ride will suffer as you will lose the amount of travel you have before the shock hits the bumpstop. About the lowest you will go is around 2.2-2.5 inches in the front and around 2-2.25 inches in the rear with lowering springs without cutting coils (which you do NOT do). Springs that provide this kind of drop are: Tein S-Tech, Sprints, KSport for example. Lower (firmer) springs should be paired with stronger (firmer) dampeners or struts, most of the firmer ones are adjustable which is a plus when mix-and-matching.

There is more (if not all you need) information on this page: MaximaHandling

(takes breath) Happy modding!

I really like tha color as well. If you start to clean it up and mod it it will look realy nice. Lose the muffler really fast and clean that engine bay as soon as possible!! Looks like a good place to start from tho. how's the interior?

Since you have ths shocks/struts, get some lowering springs to drop it to give it a nice stance. Maybe some rims if you want and you're set.

Fr33way, thanks for the link and all the helpful info!

The interior is pristine, but dusty, a quick wipe down and it looks great. The only problem inside is the arm rest that sits between driver/passenger has a broken clip, it semi-works because the latch is only broken on the left side.

So go to junkyard to get a working arm set. Nice Max!

acutally in the case of maxima springs....more of the milder drops such as Eibach and Prgress are stiffer than the Lower ones....the lower ones just bottom out all the time to make it feel like they are really stiff when really ur bottoming out

I say its not lowered.

I’d leave the remainder of the intake they way it is, better yet I’d get rid of the short ram intake and get the rest of the stock intake back on.

Clean the engine bay, and by the way, nice color!

I'd get the stock intake back on...if I had it, I'm thinking of removing the whole thing, duct and filter, and installing an injen CAI.

I looked at the air duct that is doing nothing today, and the way things are bolted together, if I removed it a box would be hanging suspended from a hose. Sorry for sounding like I know nothing, because I really don't but I made a picture outlining the problem:

If I remove the Air Duct, that's attached to the Black Box by that bolt, then the Black Box (resonator?) will hang freely from a hose attached to the other Black box

Sorry for my lack of Engine Part vocabulary and overall auto incompetence
