Changing the Map light bulb in 4th gen

I could not find a write up on this... may be because its very minor thing. I need to replace the bulb in the "map light" (located just above the rear view mirror) but not sure how to take out the bulb from the housing there. I can see a clip there but not sure which way/how to press or bend it so the bulb can be removed and the new one put in.
Thanks.

I had this same problem actually. What you have to do is push the bulb on the glass side and then twist the bulb so thr nubs on the sides of the bulb will slide out. Know what I mean? Those are pretty bad instructions. Good luck finding a replacemrnt bulb tho. I couldnt find a match in any stores.

Do you have a manual for you vehicle? I'm pretty sure it is listed in there.

Thanks 97GreenMaxSE, will try your instructions.. I know the bulb is hard to find, will probably have to go to stealer (read dealer).

Starsnstripes - its not listed in the manual.

VQmaxi17 - thats bizzare... only way I can think of the bugs might have tunneled through the Sunroof housing (thru the hollow).

What are you guys talking about? The replacement of map light is clearly stated in owner's manual. And the bulb is pretty common.

To remove the cover, just use a big flat screw with some clothes padded. The bulb is twist-and-remove thing.

There was a small bug in the light cover. Yes, it happens.

BTW, my max is '99.

Has anyone put LED's in it? I have one in mine but when I put in a second in parallel the second one blows, but the first doesn't. They both had resistors. Do yall think it would work if I wired 4 LED's in series to split the voltage (or is it current that splits?). I've already wasted 20 out of my 50 bulbs doing the dome light LED "mod". I don't want it ricey, just bright and clean light.

If you wire four of them in series, it might work but you would suffer for insufficient current or insufficient voltage. That is, insufficient brightness.

I don't think just switching to LED bulbs is a good idea. Although each LED has a resistor, the total impedance would different according to the configuration (parallel/serial). It's not a smart way at all.

My idea is, I would put a small PCB and transistor/resistors to get proper voltage and limit the current through the LEDs. Perhaps I would use surface-mount LEDs.

This application could be used on the front door curtesy lights.
