Lateral Link Hitting Sway BAr

I have a progress rear anti-sway bar on my rear axle. My lateral link is traveling so far down that it is hitting the sway bar. I lowered the sway bar as much as possible but I'm still getting contact. It sounds bad and its actually denting the sway bar. Is there a way to limit the travel in the lateral link?

Any info will be appreciated.

Is this something that can be tightened or are they replaced when worn? I've never heard of any problems with them.

my bad you are talking about the lateral link. i thought you were talking about the bar that is inside the torsion beam.

the lateral link does come apart from the torsion beam. by looking at the fsm it looks like its bolted to the torsion beam with 2 nuts. i am assuming that the bushings inside of it are worn or cracked and there is excess play in them

I have one installed and can't imagine how anything can hit the bar. Got pics?

I'll post pictures tonight.

Has anybody ever replaced the bushings in their lateral link? Did that cure excessive play?

I agree, something doesn't sound right.
There's no way that link can hit the sway bar.

Based on the response that the llateral link should never hit the sway bar, I did a little web surfing and found a good site for directions and pictures of a sway bar installation. It shows the bar attached underneath the axle. Foolishly, I placed mine in front of the axle underneath the lateral link. That explains the problem. I'll move it under the axle this weekend. I don't know why I thought it should be installed in front of the axle. I think I was trying to limit the profile of the bar and mounting hardware from the rear of the car. It was a while ago.

I'll attach a link to the website with good instructions and illustrations in case anyone needs them. http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/157914

Thanks for the help.

That's why I couldn't figure you out . I was thinking "wouldnt the lateral link have to go through the beam to get to your sway bar?"
