I recently got Stillen X-Drilled rotors, braided brake lines and new brake pads. They are going to be installed next week and I figured I would paint my Calipers at the same time. I have three quick questions:

1. Which paint company do you suggest?
2. How many coats do I need?
3. Do I need to sand first? If yes, what grit?

Thank you,
Erik

1. I used 500 deg. engine enamel, both color and clear. It has held up well for 2 years.

2. I put on 2 coats of color and 2 coats of clear, then baked them in the oven at 225 deg. for one hour.

3. You don't need to sand them. Wash them thoroughly with soap and water then rinse. When they are dry, wipe them down with paint thinner before painting.

well....

if you want to paint your calipers id buy this paint by foliac or somethin liek that..i think its close to $100 but will last for a realyl logn time and wont start cracking or peeling, and as for saninding all you have to do is wash them really weel and make sure that their clean...how well you prep them is how well the paint stays on and looks

I'll be doing mine in the next couple of weeks (once I get my brake lines in the mail!) and here's my plan:

I bought a bunch of break cleaner, and a thing of Navel Jelly to clean the calipers really well.

500deg Engine Paint (red), clear coat and gray primer.

I am going to do this with the calipers off the car...clean them real good, a few coats of primer, then paint, then clear coat.

Anything else anyone suggests?

You guys do know the sell 'brake caliper' paint at PEPBOYS for like $8 a can don't you? It comes in several colors and has a higher temp rating IIRC...
