loud stock exhaust
Well it looks like my factory exhaust is messed up, i always got kinda a ****ty sound outa my muffler but after yesterday it got really loud, like as loud as catback. I assumed my muffler went seening as how its the original one. So i went to autozone, got a new muffler for like 120 , put it in with a buddy of mine and no sound change at all. The flange taht goes to the exhast does leak alittle but i dont think it could be this loud. So im starting to think that either my cat or resionator is blown or there is a huge whole im not seeing. Is there any tricks u guys know of the tell if these are blown, I hear that ur exhaust smells like eggs if ur cat is blown? i have no cell but i'll check for ghost codes. wut do u guys think i should do. i dont really want a loud cat back but i might have to get one now.

how does the muffler bearing look..... ok im sorry that had no relavence. If your y looks anything like the one in the pic above then go with the budget I think they have a good deal right now. but there are cat backs that arent loud, a lot has to do with the muffler you put on tho. So maybe that one from az might not be the best for a quiet exhaust?? unless it came with a silencer.. did you say if you had rust problems under there? if your 4th gen has a lot of miles and rust you might have probs just replacing one part of they sys, aka cat conv. bolts might break on either end, y or b pipe side. take it somewhere that can lift it up and check it out. I have buddies at nissan so i take mine there. but see where you can get it on a lift if you dont have jacks/dont wanna slide under there, GL!

Yes it can! The flange near my muffler started leaking and made lots of noise.

i just had the same problem. the flanges on the muffler and Bpipe were both shot.
i got a sawzall, cut both pipes @ the flanges. hit up autozone, got some antiseize, 2 1/8in pipe (about, 4in long or so), and some exhaust brackets.
sand down the end where you cut, then just simply slide the pipe on, and apply the exhaust brackets and put antiseize on the threads of the brackets.
tighten it up and your good to go.
parts total was around 6 bucks.
saving $121 + labor on a B-pipe install.

BEST IDEA EVER!! - (FROM A COLD START) - Jack up your car, set it on stands and then get under the car (preferably on a creeper) and be sure to wear some type of mechanics gloves and then have a friend start the car. Next - while under the car run your hand (WITH THE GLOVE ON) along the y-pipe flex tube and flanges, then along the b pipe and resonator and then around the flange near the muffler. once you think you've found the hole (or holes) put a finger or 2 over the hole and have your buddy step on the gas or pull the throttle valve under the hood. By going hole by hole you can tell which is the hole thats making the noise. Then it is just a matter of swapping out the pipe or sawzalling your way to victory!
I just sawzalled my way to victory at the b-pipe / muffler flange and it sounds great. NO MORE LEAK!!
Hopefully this helps you and hopefully you have a floor jack and some stands.
Best of Luck.

esp. highway speeds.

Thnanks for the help guys, makes me feel better and and it would be nice if my only leak was at the muffler-bpipe flange. I might bring it to a mechanic that has done work on my car before to weld in a new pipe. If i can get access to a lift ill see what i can do myself.
