WTF i failed inspection because of clear bumper lights?
WTF i failed inspection because of clear bumper lights?
wow I passed last year with the same ligghts but the guy said they were not DOT/SAE approved. what should I do? i dont even have the stock ones anymore and i dont feel like buying them. this is complete bullsh1t
that doesnt seem right because I have clear coner lights and it doesnt matter here and its the same NY inspection. do you have amber turning lights if you do then there is no problem go to a different place
cant help you with NY but in jersey your REFLECTORS have to be amber in the front and red in the back. the bulbs must be that color also. if ya want to get around it here just go to a private inspection station and bribe him they always bite for the most part. luckily i nkow someone who will just pass it for me no questions asked.....

you will not pass inspection with clears, i tried three different times, different places with no luck, so i ended up swapping the amber lights in for inspection and swap the clears right after. but after getting a ticket with my clears for not having an amber lens and amber reflector, i'm running stock.

That's wierd. This was my third year getting my car inspected and they passed me without any problems. I don't even think my lights are DOT/SAE approved. Go somewhere else. The first guy I ever brought it to decided to fail me cause he said my tints were too dark but never said anything about my bumper lights. I went somewhere else and they passed me for the past 3 years without any problems or bs.

Part of it might be the cops pulling people over for illegal lights and they tell them 'but it just passed inspection at such and such a place' then they send some people over their to inspect the inspection station.
What is required for all cars in the states are amber reflectors on the front corners as well as amber light emitting from the front corners.

No kidding, no inspections in Ohio either. Gotta love government bureaucracy. But hey, if it'll postpone one death then it's worth it.
It should say DOT on the light if they are approved. Do you know how many motorcycles are out there with non-DOT directionals??
The guy might have had his rocks in the crusher, the state could have come and paid him a visit. I know they personally who works for the state (On LI) and bring cars into random shops to see how they do their inspections.
You can bring the car elsewhere but it will cost you $37 whereas the original shop will be $10. The guy was being a jerk, case closed.
What I'd like to see is the orginal lenses form Nissan and clear bulbs, I am looking at the inpection rules right now and there is no mention of color, just "Must be of an approved type" When I got my inspection license I rememeber they guy saying if the lense does not say "DOT" you can fail the car/vehicle. Also if the lens is crack and there is clear white light from the bulb, you can fail it.
That means, you lens can be totally gone and the whole thing is red transparent tape it will pass.
also, BTW, your brakes can be metal to metal, as long as the car stops in a straight line, it will pass.

My car has DOT approved clear corners. As I already stated, you need to have orange reflectors on the car. Since you remove the stock bumpers you dont have orange reflectors on the car. I had the nicest guy when I was inspected. He simply stated that the clears are illegal if there is no other orange reflector on the front half of the car. So I went home, got my stock lens, swapped them in, went back, got inspected, and switched back to clear. Its not a big deal. Just change things when you get inspected. I'm planning on adding some type of reflector, like the I30 and the new max's have in the corners. It'll be pretty thin but still there so it should count for inspections.
and no you cant have red light up front. That's illegal almost everywhere. If you have orange transparent tape then ok.
