Are they full of it???

Hello-
I need to have something verified for me before I call Nissan...
I have a 1997 SE
I just recently had the odometer fail in my car. I took it in to get it replaced (Unfortunately no longer under warranty). It took a week for them to get the odometer in (no big deal). I stop at the Nissan dealership to pick it up, sit down in the car look at the gauges...
and realize that I now have a black on white speedometer with a black needle...
My needles are/were orange.
Well, the service guy is extremely apologetic and says that is their srew up and they'll get it fixed.
3 weeks go by and after several calls I finally stop back down at the dealership. Turns out the guy I talked to quit a few days after I picked up the car.
When I ask the woman behind the desk when I will be getting the correct needle/speedometer in, her exact response is:
"Oh, um... well, that's how Nissan keeps track of the fact that they had to replace the odometer. They give you one with a different colored needle or different colored face. There's nothing we can do about it."
What?!?!
Now, I worked for several dealerships and have been around cars for years and I have never heard of such a policy.
Is this really Nissan's policy? I wanted to find out for sure before I called them.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dan Noah
P.S. If any one does know where I can get a replacement needle and how to replace it, that would be greatly appreciated as well.
