Rusted Rotors

My 1999 made a clanking noise( like a rattle) when turning and driving. If I went trough a tunnel you could hear it. Finally took it in to a dealer Nissan. I first thought is was CV's or maybe wheel bearings. I checked the cv's and they looked brand new.Well took it to Nissan dealer they said it was Rusted Rotors.
FRONTS. They also said my brake fluid needed to be flushed looked ok to me??? Man $120.00 to change the brake fluid.....I said yea Ill bring it back..right...theres 41,000 miles . The rotors did look rusted on top of rotors. Is this a correct diagnoise.? Thanks for help.

Incorrect diagnosis. Rotors will only have rust on them where the brake pad doesnt make contact, unless the car sits for a long time. The rust around the outer edge and hub area will not make any noises.

is a brake fluid flush different than bleeding the brakes? cause i bled my brakes and it only took 30-45 minutes with the help of 2 people, and 2 bottles of brake fluid..does the your car make that noise when its going down a fairly straight street? sounds fishy to me...

brake fluid should be changed (flushed) every couple years regardless of what it looks like. $120 is flat out thievery, though. you can do it yourself for $5 and an hour or so. gravity bleed all calipers at once, refilling always before the MC level falls below min. continue until clear fluid come out. you may have to pump the brakes about 12 times to start the process (this releases the ABS pressure).

How would your car react if you didn't change your brake fluid for a while?

you could eventually lose braking power....i find it good to use Blue brake fluid....then just bleed each caliper until they are all blue fluid

brake fluid absorbs moisture right through the rubber hoses, seals, etc. about 2% per year. after 5 years the fluid is 10% water. that water is bad for 2 reasons:
1) it will boil (yes, your brakes get REALLY hot) and thus will produce vapor, which compresses, leaving your brakes spongy.
2) the H2O will cause corrosion. leading to a multitude of brake system failures including frozen calipers, rotted brake lines, master cylinder problems, etc.

lesson: CHANGE YOUR BRAKE FLUID EVERY 3 YEARS

Highway robbery

I hate it when porfessionals tell you something like rust is causing the problem..idiots! If it is making a clicking noise while turning, it sounds like a bad CV joint. Not too bad of a problem...just got a quote to replace the axel wher the bad CV joint is....$210.00...i think that is a good price..wonder how hard it is to do it myself?

Which side? Driver's side is easy. Passenger side is a little more difficult. Spend the $20 on a Chilton Manual.

dealer is wrong! My advice is that you check if your rear brakes have the shims, if not, put some on. I've had some cheap brake pads installed, they made a rattling noise, which was gone after I put some shims on the rear pads.
