Unless the rotors are ineffective, leave them alone. It will probably look cool if you paint them black after getting rid of all the rust.

Wire brush/ steel wool, either one would work good. Add some WD40 to help what it can.

paint the calipers a fresh silver color. If you get new rotors Zinc plated rotors will not rust like the one you have. Stick with the rotors you have till they need replacing.

I would stay away from green, it's kind of ricey and black or silver is a lot cleaner looking.

So, you want to paint your rotors? Are you serious?

You might want to liberally coat the entire rotor with WD40 before you paint... you know, to avoid overspray. And don't worry about spraying it off with brake cleaner or anything... that will just ruin your new mad-tite-JDM-teh-hottness paintjob.... just drive up to about 100mph, and slam on the brakes... your brake pads will clean off anything on there.

/sarcasm

He wants to paint the hats on the rotors.
Brake cleaner hasnt hurt the paint on my setup.
Why spray WD40 on anything.?
Either use the brush on brake paint or remove the caliper and spray it with an engine enamel, then clear coat them. Remove the rotors and tape off everyting but the hats and paint them.

Wow... my sarcasm wasn't conveyed through the intArweb...

I was SARCASTICALLY telling him to spray WD40 all over the brake rotor, and then drive as fast as he could, and slam on the brakes... i.e., to wreck/crash.

I think that the whole idea sounds SUPER ricey, and should be avoided like a fat girl with AIDS.... you just don't want to do it... even if you're drunk.

i'd paint the whole thing black, all in one shot, this way your rotors dont look like *** next to shiny calipers, and one short trip will trip the paint off the rotor where it has to make contact. doesnt work as well in the rear since they dont work as hard as the front. there you would have to mask off the rotor.

i am going to be painting my hats on my rotors and my calipers, it looks much better then the rusty look i have now, either black, silver or a dark silver, nothing that will stand out too much.
