the knock sensor won, forgive me

I read thru numerous posts, checked out Motorvate.ca, pm'ed a few who had did the repair. But in the end I couldn't get the freakin bolt to turn on the bad ks. I even spent $40 dollars on flex this, extend that tools but sorry, I have to break down and hand the job to my mechanic. All you east coast guys who did it yourself my hats off to you, some of you guys need to move to the midwest like I did years ago. I'm from NJ originally. But enough of that I just want my power back. I'll keep you posted on costs vs performance.

Sometime it can be very frustrating, its a bolt that appears to ber over tightened and you have little space top manuver around.

I still work try to get it off, but I guess its too late for that. Even so you could have removed the upper intake manifold and then have all the space you'd need. Cheaper than a mechanic but more envolving.

Keep us posted

The friend/roommate has smaller hands then me and he re-torqued the bolt (it was over torqued and too sensative) with an open wrench.

Just take the manifold off in order to be able to torque the bolt down to spec.

Apparition you have any good tips since you can do it so fast? No way I'm paying couple hundred $$ for someone to do this change.

Once the air cleaner was removed and two bolts holding the swirl valve actuator, I had my KS replaced in about 5 minutes. It was probably one of the easier jobs I've done on Max, with the right tools of course.
I think the fuel filter took more time to replace then my KS.

I took off the total air cleaner box and all. I bought a swivel, and a 11 inch flex head ratchet. I could get the socket on the bolt head but in doing so I only had maybe 1 to 1.5 inches of wrench to hold on to. I remembered the lefty loosey but the socket kept coming off the bolt. I stuck with it for over an hour. Hell I didn't even have a replacement ks at the time. I figured that if I could get this one off I would spend the $172 dollars that Autozone sells them for, since the dealer quoted the job at $400+ dollars. I'd still be ahead, but no luck so I paid $60 bucks for one off Ebay and I'll take it to my mechanic next week and pay for two hrs worth of labor. While he has the manifold off I'll have him replace all my gaskets just because.

Its funny, a car race team can r&r a motor in like 20 minutes. Your mechanic 8 hrs. Where is the justice. It's all a money grab. Mdeezy can do a knock sensor in under 6 minutes. A mechanic 2 hours or more.
Weird.

Because the mechanics take off the manifold to get a better shot at the KS. That's where they say the time comes from.

I used a craftsmen swivel joint with like (4) 3" extensions and muscled the hell out of it about 3 times after it slipping off and it broke loose. ITS ALWAYS HARDER THE FIRST TIME. After that though, haha no biggie. The hard part isn't getting it off, I did that in under a minute. The hard part was finally accepting that I was gonna have a bloody *** hand and to just stop being a panzy, crack open a beer, and shove my hand in there and screw the new one in regardless of the pain.

Im not sure, but if those two bolts mentioned are the ones I'm thinking of.. The ones holding the SV actuator, well if removed, could make life alot easier I would think though.

"Nissans run on blood and tears and beg for more," says my friend with a honda. I think in some aspects he may be right lol.

Weird.
well, they have been trained to move extremely fast, in a very short time. Plus I'm sure the car is as pre-prepped as possible so that anything that would need to be changed, could be at a fast speed.

I would rather a mechanic takes their time so they dont forget something while they are in a hurry.

I could come by and change yours, I dont know if it would be under 6 mintues but I can try, let me re-new my green card and I'll be right up.

Ha! I went to Nissan and asked for a KS and intake manifold gasket (I was replacing my fuel injectors, but they assumed I was removing the IM to do the KS...) The Nissan mechanic loafing around the parts department says, "The BOOK recommends you do it that way" (remove the IM). "I don't think I have ever done it that way."

Of course, what you get charged for and what you have in fact had done are two different things...

My $0.02.
