what strut/spring setup should i get?
ok heres the deal:
i have about$550 (not $650, not $750, $550.). not really looking to get GR2s because i heard they are not good with lowering springs. im looking for a 1.5-2in drop. i was thinking maybe tokico blues with some s-techs? only problem is that everyplace i try tells me blues are on backorder for at least 2 more week and i dont have 2 weeks to wait (need to put them in at school, next week is last week of quarter then i have a week off). so what setup are you riding? and how much did it cost you? anyone got any suggestions on a setup i can get for about $550 total (including taxes and such).
oh and you can tell me to "wait til you have more money" but that wont be until next summer because im in school now, with no job. and my struts are shot to sh*t already so i deffinatly dont want to wait. (im riding stock setup now)
thanks!

Your better off waiting till you have more money and do it right.
From what I understand Blues and any kind of lowering spring will decrease the life of the strut and you'll be replacing them again down the line.
Save up and get Illuminas.

GET THE KYB AGX, there just as good and you can get them on ebay for like $350-$400 shipped, and there great, they are the equivelent to the illuminas, they are adj. (dampaning) 4 way in the front 8 way in the rear. I dont get the bias, why does everyone on here think the illuminas are the only good shock out there? weird! o well
I got the agx's with progress springs, i cant complain. Great set up! payed like 600 total. But you can get the same set upstruts and springs from cattman.com for $550

If ur dead set on buying suspension with the 550 then go Progress and AGX...or save a lil more wait til after winter...i dunno how bad urs get....and get better struts like Illuminas or my fav.....if u search around u can find deals on eBay....or even classifieds...i would never buy used struts but springs are ok

not really sure what you mean by 'sprited driving'. i dont really race the car if thats what u mean. actually, i dont really drive that fast at all anymore in general. (learned my lesson after being pulled over 6 times in a year n a half). i just want the damn thing to not be so harsh on bumps and to ride smooth. im tryin to just make it last another year or so until im out of school and have been working. then im gunna sell it n get somethin else.

keep the springs, and get tokico blue's you'll have a nice ride, and with the leftover money can get FSTB and RSB if you'd like.
also, while changing the suspension, there might be things needing replacement - have you budgeted for those? like strut bearings?

I found a company on ebay that has maxima parts also. They have the tokico blues for 319 +35shipping=$354 The s-tech's are 159 shipped which comes to about $513 total... I bought some s-tech's from them and they ship the next day plus they have 100% feedback.. Search jdm-instock in the ebay stores, or there site is rms-usa.com i think.

In general, it will help quicken your car's response and reduce body roll. It's almost as though it takes grip away from the rear and adds it to the front, thus shifting the balance away from understeer and toward oversteer. If you're going to think of it that way, take into account that much more grip is taken away from the rear than is added to the front.
If you're on stock suspension, or have coilovers with massively stiffer springs in front than in back (as most do with the default rates for our cars), you have so much understeer that adding the RSB can only help. Thing is, most aftermarket spring sets are already made to dial out understeer. I'm not sure about the Progress springs in particular, but some springs in combination with a sway bar can leave you with nothing but oversteer. Good for some, bad for others. It's ultimately a preference thing, and whatever happens you can be pretty sure that your car won't be violently tail-happy. Just make sure you know what you're getting into.
Other potential downsides come from a lack of compliance in the rear suspension, which can make your rear end skitter out if you hit a bump in mid-corner. The higher resistance to load transfer can also prevent your outside tire from pushing water out from under it, making your car a little more of a handful in the rain. As you can imagine, each of those is double trouble in combination with a higher oversteer bias. .

What a strut bar does is tie the two strut towers together so that they share the load applied at the outer tower. This gives you twice as much material to deal with the same cornering force and helps reduce fatigue stress in this area.

umm sure u might be able to get springs and struts for about $550... but did u ever think about installation fee's? My friend dropped $200 to get his **** installed on a trans am. Can't imagine it being much cheaper, unless your doing it urself... So yeah installed, not possible for $550.

yea, im really thinking of just gettin some blues or GR2s and sayin screw lowering the thing. cause i mean, it looks like crap anyway...with the spoiler being ripped off and my attempt at body work, dent in the rear passanger door, rear bumper different shade of white, and bondo spots on my front bumper...hoping to fix it up next quarter though when i take paint and refinishing class.

I went with the blues and the ride is comfortable yet stiff enough to get rid of that feeling like its going to tip over like suv going around turns. From what I heard gr2's are stiffer and some people have said they're unbearable. I was also not planning on spending too much money either since I will be getting something new in a year or so. Thus, I would throw out the lowering idea the blues aren't really designed for lowering, even the warranty card says they're not covered if you lower it over 1.5 in (iirc). You'll probably also want to replace dust boots I did nissan oem in the front and KYB / TRW in the rear (nissan rears cost like 35 each or something like that) and strut bearings. Check the stickies / suspension forum for the right part numbers. The squeaking I was getting came from the sway bar end links. I purchased mine from advanced auto for like $30 for both sides. Go this route and pocket over $100+ for something else.

I ordered the Tokico HP kit (springs + blues) from Justin at the GD forum, he has it there for $425 shipped. It's backordered though but expecting it within a couple of weeks.
Also, I have a discussion thread on the 4th gen forum for the misc parts needed for a full suspension install, you should check it out. Still some gray areas but shows you all the bits and pieces you may need to replace when you tear it apart.

thats my problem. i cant wait. i have to put it in next week. thats why i canceled my order of em from 3 different places. cause theyre all on backorder. i already have to wait until monday/tuesday until my last canceled order processes and money gets back into my bank account. which leaves me just 2 days to somehow convince my teacher that transmission class somehow relates to putting in some struts. otherwise, im f-ed.
