Just Got My New Knock Sensor!!!

sorry for the caps, but I was way excited about getting my power back, especially at the awsome price of $50 shipped. Gonna put it on tomorrow and we'll see how it goes...

well I went to change this out today and had another little problem...

the KnockSensor Harness is f'ed up. one of the wires that goes into the plug that plugs into the KS itself is gone-almost all the way up to where it goes into the other connector, so I guess I'll have to wait until I can find one of these. My Knock Sensor may not even be bad yet-maybe it was just the harness. When I tried to check for resistance when testing the KS, it read "infinate", so I just assumed(we all know what that does) that it was the KS...

gonna see what the stealership wants for one tomorrow and maybe I can get it fixed this weekend, gonna be busy as I have to redo all my brakes as well...

oh well, ill report back when I know something

NO NO NO!! that's how it's supposed to be. there is only 1 wire that plugs into the KS. the other is a ground for the sheath.

that's a good question. I can only assume that this is a generic part used in about 100 different applications. Some may need the ground pin. Nissan must've just figured they don't need it (the body is grounded to the engine block), so why run a wire to it?

this is prolly true, as my KS was listed to fit all these cars:
Make Model Year
INFINITI --- G20 99,96-91
I30 01-96
J30 97-93
M30 92-90
Q45 99-90
QX4 99-97
MERCURY --- VILLAGER 98-93
NISSAN --- 200SX 98,95
240SX 98-91
300ZX 96-90
ALTIMA 01-93
D21 PICKUP 93-90
FRONTIER 00-98
MAXIMA 99-95
NX 93-91
PATHFINDER 98-92
PICKUP 96-95
QUEST 98-93
SENTRA 01-98,94-91
XTERRA 00

so how then can you unplug the connector at the opposite end of the KS and check for resistance if there is only one wire???

you check between pin 1 and engine ground. if you get an open or a short you certainly have a bad KS. BUT, just because you get between 500-620k doesn't mean your KS is good (contrary to what the FSM states).

i just took a look at my knock sensor yesterday. It's not joke when the write-ups say bloody hands will be the result of you trying to get to the KS. Any tips on what tools to use besides a U head?
