How much power can the auto handle?

I have an Automatic SE, I'm wondering if I ever decide to make some mods (y-pipe, NOS (small shot like 45 0r 50), underdrive pulley) how much power can the auto tranny handle without a valve body modification? Maybe just an oil cooler?

With the mods you described including the oil cooler and adding synthetic tranny fluid and a valve body you should be fine.
Auto trannies are like a wife, when things are calm they're great but if they get pissed off things aren't so great.
Moral of the story, keep them both cool, well oiled, and treat them right.
But $hit happens and either one can blow up!!

I guess if it blows up that would be a great excuse for a manual swap.

Now that is a positive attitude! Honestly though, an oil cooler for the auto is a very good idea. They love to run cool.

Transmission Oil Cooler

Yes, transmission oil cooler. Is there any model number that has been tested to fit nicely?

As for the VB mod I have no idea who could do that in PR

Is this a mod that any transmission shop could perform sucessfully? Or do you need specific experience with the Maxima to do it correctly? I know it involves recalibration of the transmission valve body but I have no idea how this is performed.

There is a write up if you want to do it yourself and save the money.

I saw the write up for the trans cooler and it even recommends a model number. For the VB mod however there is no write up on the sticky for the "How To" or the "Mods". Only a write up on how to remove or install the valve body.

for VB, contact this place, http://www.maximumtuning.net/
The guy's name is Jeff, and he's done many VB for members in the north east (myself included). contact him, and see if you can send him yours, and he'll send you one already done.
any cooler would do, like hayden 401. anything around 10-15000 lbs rating. mine is bypassing the stock one in the radiator.
