When I had my axle/hub/bearing replaced last week, my mechanic replaced this bolt with some random one he had - some kind of a suspension bolt... but he said I need to get an identical one and he'd put it on my next oil change.

So - anyone knows wtf this is and where I get one?

Thanks!

That certainly looks like a strut-to-knuckle bolt and nut. First, that 12.9 designation means that it's an extra high strength bolt and that whatever the mechanic had laying around is weaker. So definitely get a new one installed.

Second, the fact that it's turned way down means someone was trying to create more play to adjust front camber. Either the car has a bent frame or suspension component and this is being done to get a proper alignment, or someone was going for a negative camber in front to improve cornering grip.

Yea, and find yourself a new mechanic who actually knows what he's doing. No offense intended, but not a whole lot of these guys got into making a living by wrenching on cars because they were bored with nuclear physics or brain surgery.

since this is the case, it should be hard to find a good mechanic, good luck on your search....
