Approaching 200,000 miles on my 1999 Maxima GLE and its about time to replace the shocks and struts. No real problems yet, but there looking pretty bad.

I'm not looking for anything thats high performance, just good replacements that will give me the same ride and hopefully same mileage as the originals.

tokico HPs are ur best bet if u want close to stock replacements.....

While that is true, he isn't looking for performance(prob does not want to spend a lot) and it is a 200k vehicle.. That said, bds, did your originals last 200k? I had two of these cars and the shocks all started to go out at around 80k.

Yes, 200k on originals, mostly highway driving. The RR is the only on that is failing right now, but the car still handles fine, just a little noise when you bounce it. I'v been really happy with the stock struts and want the same ride. I will replace struts within 5,000 miles. Befor I get new tires.

Again just looking for a smooth highway ride. Iv been thinking about the kby gr2s or monroe's?????

 

yea im also wondering what would be good shocks to get for best handling.. i was thinking illuminas?

 

KYB GR2s are stiff compared to stock. Monroes just suck for import cars, way to soft and floaty like your grandmas Buick. Question has been answered for stock replacement go with the Tokico HPs (blues) or get a set from Nissan.

 

Are the stock struts made by Nissan and only aviliable at the dealer?

I've had the KYB GR2s and while they do feel stiff, the rear of the car still dips going over bumps brand new. They're cheap though, a little less than 300$ with installation on a set of four.

The stock shocks are not made by Nissan, the are made for Nissan. I don't remember if my stock struts were marked?? My Z32 factory shocks were made by Tokico.

 

every nissan strut i have had was made by tokico.

Sry for crapping but im wondering with the GR-2 struts and shocks will my car actually sit any lower? Also will it stop the strange rear end sag?

 

How Much should i cost to put 4 struts on. I'm be quoted around $75 per corner, $300 total. Seems a little high when i suppling the parts.

Are the Tokico HP's good for the GLE or does it matter.

Is it possible to replace the rear shocks with HP's and keep the front struts (Nissan) which are fine for the moment, without creating a forward slope, given the HP's ride a little higher?

 

struts don't change the ride height. springs change he ride height. HPs are probably the best choice for the budget orientated driver who just wants a smooth ride very close to stock, GR-2's being for the budget who want a stiffer ride and plans on lowering, and illuminas, AGX and koni's for the people who want the best performance and quality. coilovers for all out performance and looks.
