How many ORG members have done the 3.5L SWAP on their 4th Gen?

I know i'm a newbie to maxima's but i've had 2 240sx's and swapped the redtop sr20 into my s13 by myself in my garage which was fairly easier and definately worth the money.

Now that I have a 4th gen maxima I'm curious how many people have done the 3.5 swaps themselves and are the results as gratifying as putting an sr20det into a s13? Basically I'm not sure if I should just leave my max the way it is and drive it till I save up enough for a 6th gen... or should I go for the swap...

Go for the swap. Just make sure to do your home work on it first. I took the "easy" way out and paid some one else to go through the blood, sweat, and tears. There is lots of good information in the All Motor Forum and if you post up an intellegent question they will respond.

My price will remain undisclosed (I was the first one the guy had done). IIRC the current pricing is $1400 for the labor.

I think if you can do an sr20 drop then you should be mechanically inclined to do a 3.5 swap by yourself. IMO defective parts and timing are the 2 biggest obstacles with the swap.

Perhaps I should ask in the regional section but Im in Philly,PA and am dying to get the 3.5 Ive been thinking about a newer Max with the 3.5 but Im totally not looking for payments right now.Does anyone know of a good place in PA to get this done?I think I remember hearing about a guy in Reading but I cant seem to find him. Also Ive heard a few times the $1400 labor number so does anyone do a full package deal, like motor and swap for X amount of dollars? If not Im pretty sure I could get a reasonable price on one. Also when you guys have done this are you buying NEW 3.5's or used? Im going to Fl. for the month of Janurary and the car would otherwise be sitting in my warehouse and would rather have the swap being done and come home to the 3.5. I didnt think the 3.5 could be that much different than the 3.0 but boy was I wrong...after test driving the new Max I was sick with my 97's power....now I NEED the swap. Sorry one more, how about getting the 3.5/5speed swap at the same time? You think I might get a deal? Also same question about the tranny, new or used?

Does anyone think I'm better off just going with a S/C instead of swapping???

The sr20 swap was a lot of hard work especially cuz my garage is so small and I was doing it on jack stands.. I don't know if I want go through all that again... but paying $1400+cost of engine and parts for someone else to do it sounds like a steal. I would definately pay that.

If anyone knows of shops around my area or nearby jersey, let me know..

If you missed the post after the "Cam drilling" statement then you are a tad bit misinformed.

Prior to the good ole' days:
Cam drilling: $50 bucks or take up the assignment
Cam spacers: $60-80 from JWT

Good ole' days (now):
Cam adapters: $100

Snap something on the ends or drill ... I pick snap things on the ends. Many have seen me ***** about how the 3.5 swap isn't any harder then the DEK swap (which is seen as a close-to-direct swap). Either way good luck with the project and keep the ORG informed

3.5 Swap or Supercharger

This should probably be a new thread but it's not worth it cuz i'm pretty sure I know what the answer is going to be..

Should I start saving for the 3.5 Swap or the Supercharger???

Bro I dont know about how a supercharged 3.0 feels but let me tell you the 3.5 is a beast. It feels NOTHING like our 3.0. When I was done with the test drive I couldn't even enjoy my car anymore...Ive been driving all slow the past 4 days just because I dont wanna get aggravated

I did some research today and decided I no longer have the time nor the patients to piece together what I need and perform the swap myself.. so I anyone knows anywhere I can go to get the swap done in the tri-state area let me know.. I'm willing to spend around $3000 for it including the motor and all necessary parts.

I did 6 SR swaps before moving over to VQ's and then doing the 3.5. If you have some mechanical ability it is not hard. I did mine by myself. Of course problems do happen and that's what the .org is for.
