Bye Bye Old Friend

I was heading east on RT 46 in NJ at about 40 MPH last night when a van made a left turn into me. Looks like everybody's OK, but the Max is a wreck, probably totaled. I really enjoyed driving it for the last 8 years (and "customizing" it), it's been my favorite of some 25 cars I've owned.

Now that I'm not in the same income bracket as I was in 1999, looks like I'll be joining "The Sonata Forum", LOL.

Good luck to you all.

Sorry to hear that but at least everyone is ok. Part out the car and take that money to put down on another 4th gen.

No, wife needs an automatic (she couldn't drive it), so it's off to an auto. There is a 2006 with 21K miles on it for $22K at a local Nissan dealer, maybe I'll check that out. I loved the 4th gen look but I'm not willing to take a chance on somebody else's car, I know mine was well maintained, but even it needed repairs rom time to time. I worried a lot about this as it grew older but it only stranded me twice, last time was in March with the computer not recognizing the key and it shut down. This also happened in 2002 but it was under warranty. Great Car!

As far as parting out, that's what my 22 YO son said last night, but no time, hopefully insurance company will give me $6 - $7K (it was in pristine condition, at least in my opinion and others) and will salvage the Alpine V12 5 way amp and Pioneer HPF-404 head for the next car (the 12" MTX B/T sub was out of the trunk as laundry was in, LOL). Now I'll just have to find something that takes a double DIN head unit. (Kia Van? LOL, my son shudders at that!)

Budd Lake. Hate that section of road. I was eastbound in the "slow" lane, this van just made a left turn from westbound lane into me. Ouch!

Have NJM Ins, $30/day rental, they have a deal with Enterprise, $34/day for an '07 Max, they are checking for me. Last year had some vandalism repaired, had an '06 Murano, it was OK, but an automatic (CVT), gas mileage was 18 MPG and I missed my 5 speed 4th Gen, was glad car was fixed in record time.

Will do, as soon as I find out where it is, LOL. FD said something about towing it to a place in Hackettstown, but they don't know anything about it. Will find out Monday and then take some pics.

I haven't made this little $$$ since 1981, so a G35 is out of the pic. RT 22 Nissan has some certified, low mileage 06 Maxes for around $21K, that might work. I do like the classic look of the 4th gen, not crazy about 06 styling, but that's life. Important thing is everyone is OK and that my wife and 2 YO daughter were safe at home; now that would have freaked me out if they were with me.

Thanks. I just got gas at the Exxon on 46 near Naughright and the attendant was on a bus stuck at the scene also.

Guy at towing co said there was an adjuster there from my Ins Co today on another matter and when he asked the adjuster if it was totaled, he said definitely.

Got a Cadillac DTS from Enterprise for $2 more than a Charger or 07 Max (no Max available). I can live with it for 40 days, LOL. 07 Max would have been nice though.

I don't think so, might complicate matters. Will just remove upgraded stereo and replace w/OEM single DIN 'stereo", LOL.

Haven't figured out how to post a pic yet, but here is a link to a 2004 pic.

Thanks everyone for the condolences. I explained to people that losing the Max was about 1/2 as bad as losing the family dog, LOL. Was hoping it would last till 2012, when I plan to retire. Had JWT Popcharger, a $2K+ stereo that really "worked" for me (kept trying different amps, but Alpine V12 was perfect with the "old" Polk db2's and Blue Thunder 12" sub), Tokico's with H&R Springs, FSB, RSB, Stillen Exhaust, a wood dask kit (to cover up a burn hole my then 17 YO put in the gearshift surround), 16" Konig Reigns with 225/55/16 Ziexes and some more that I forgot.

But the car did it's job! I was doing 40MPH when the old lady in the van (well, older than me, LOL) kinda front ended me doing maybe 30 MPH, and all I got was bruised, I think. New aches keep popping up, so I'll see my MD tomorrow and maybe I can get a couple of weeks of therapy (read massage) out of it also. Lazyman's exercise, suits me just fine, especially when free.

I'm leaning towards a certified 06 Max, they're asking $21 to $23K here in NJ at RT 22 Nissan, they have from 10K to 23K miles on them, and they are auto, which means my wife can drive it. I'll keep you all posted, but like I said, I've got an 06 Cadillac DTS with 8K miles on it for the next 40 days maybe, so I'll enjoy that for a while. Gotta go pump up the tires to 35 psi (at 27 psi now) and try a few other things, LOL.
