EGR is something you should do research about because its sort of the proverbial double-edged sword. It keeps combustion chamber temps lower but basically reduces your power a notch. A clogged EGR tube will cause some mild attention-getting disturbances but nothing too serious. However, consistent deviation from manufacturer specifications can cause other problems and ecu codes. So to answer your question yes it affects performance (but not much), and you should clean it, because a clogged situation will mess with your vehicle's ecu operating program parameters.

Somebody call me? LOL. Anyway, I drove with my code for the better part of a year with no noticeable side effects (for me). I still got decent gas mileage (27 and up mpg), car started, did several long distance runs with no issues. That said, it still needs to be addressed and if you live in a state where you have annual inspection, you might as well go ahead and do it now. The thread I started is somewhere around and I do have pictures, so hopefully it will help. I have to say again, I wouldn't have found without the help of other Org members.

OK. Here are my pictures.
FWIW, I didn't cut or use a hacksaw on anything. Whatever works best for you is what you should do.

Here's the thread I started when I was working on mine..
