I'm the type of person who's religious about car maintenance. I bought the car with 125k, and i now have 135k. Within this time frame I've changed alot of things. Cleaned the TB and the IACV twice, sea-foamed once, 4 oils changes, every oil seal changed etc etc. You see what i mean lol!
So this was the first time i clean the MAF with the CRC MAF Cleaner and WOW!!! It's amazing how this stuff really works. I didn't see any dirt or anything come off the MAF. But it sure did wonders. At WOT you hear a deep growl as if the air box is hacked. Which it's not and everything is properly seated and aligned.
I would really recommend this to anyone on of you guys if you were every hesitant about doing it. The car has better throttle response and overall feel. Idle's even better then before but i can't really complain about the car before this. Great product.

yeah i wasn't to sure about spraying that thing myself but my friend told me that's actually the sensor and it's what should be cleaned. Don't worry and spray that and pretty much all over the thing, but don't go to crazy. Let it dry reassemble and your done.

Geo i completely took apart the entire air box set and had just the maf in my hand, put it on a shop towel and spray that bish down. Let it dry and put everything back together. I also cleaned the TB since everything was off already.
Edit: After driving around a little and burning off the TB cleaner and stuff i adjusted my idle with the IACV screw.

a MAF sensor is normally just a hot wire that measures resistance. normally i dont know if cleaning it is needed but what you might of done was since the can of spray is compressed it is cold to the touch meaning you cooled the MAF wire that is in the sensor. Which in returned made the car think its recieving colder air. and we all know the advantages of colder air. Tho, this might just be a temp. thing give it a week to actually see any notice. the dyno butt can be tricked very easily. i mean even the actual dyno can give you 2 diffrent readings on the same day with the same settings.
I've seen the can before at the store but the only reason why i didn't get it was cause i was thinking what i posted. For all i know that can be wonders but from what i've seen a MAF doesn't need to be clean. when the wire is damaged then the MAF is dead.

Where did you find this stuff? I've gone to advance, autozone, pep boys, and napa and none of them have it.

I disagree with turtle. The MAF cleaner would evaporate quick and cooling the wire has nothing to do with it. It will heat back up very quick and any effect of cooling would only last a few seconds. Over 10s of thousands of miles a very fine film of grime and heavy particles can accumulate on the wire, which has a great effect on the heat transfer rate. The dirt basically acts as a very fine insulating layer, which means the MAF takes longer to respond to increased air flow... so cleaning the MAF every once in a while is not a bad idea. Just don't blast it with some high pressure spray because it is a relatively fragile wire.

I bought CRC Maf Cleaner at Strauss and cleaned it by removing the airbox and spraying through the maf screen protector from one side and directly from the other side. I didn't feel any noticeable difference.

to whoever of you all cleaned your maf , i took my intake assembly apart over the weekend and my MAF looks shiny clean ( might be new I dont know , i just bought the car ) except for some black material between the two wires , is that the heating element or just dirt and grime ?? Also can someone please post a close up of a CLEAN MAf ???
99se5speed, where did you get your maf cleaner? The only place I can think of off the top of my head that they have up in NY and not in FL is aid auto.

the MAF cleaner is a different product although you can use both. this is the specific MAF Cleaner.

You can always order it online. So today i drove a buddy of mine that hasn't been in my car for a while. He told me he noticed a difference in sound and performance(it kinda growls at WOT like a hack airbox would i guess and throttle response has improved). So i mean i know its not the placebo effect.
You can't really see the dirt, it might be a very light layer or w/e but it still messing with the ecu. I mean it can't hurt cleaning you MAF for $5.99...took me 20min but i took everything completely appart and cleaned it along with the TB.

you said you cleaned your tb at the same time. I would imagine that the increased performance is probably from that and not the MAF cleaning. I don't disagree that cleaning the MAF is probably a good thing to do, but cleaning the tb is a proven way to increase performance.

Yeah i know it is, and just like i change my oil religiously i clean things like that also. It's a 5min job so why not? Cleaned it 3 times and it was barely dirty this time. I also clean my IACV when i can.
I like to take care of my car and that includes regular maintenance. I have another oil change coming up too...I know my engine is clean and at it's best. Can you say that? How certain are you? I'm beyond certain, every person to ever sit in my car has given me a complement on everything about an 8 year old car that shouldn't be complemented on!!!

How do you clean TB and IACV? Is there any write-up to it? I cannot use search function since I'm still a noobie.
I'll have whole morning on Thanksgiving day and will be installing anti-sway bar, so I might as well clean MAF, TB, etc. How much time it can take if I never did it before?

you guys are so damn picky with everything people say. Cleaning the tb is a good way to get idle rpm's back to normal therfor lowering your rpm back to nomral all around. It's not really performance but it makes your car run smoother and better.
I think it's a great idea to do all these kindof maintenance things. I don't really think it justify's bragging about it because I guarantee most of the people on this board do everything that you're claiming. It's regular maintenance and it's what's required on 10 yr cars to keep them going.

This is the IACV, you can kinda use this as reference.

I can't seem to find the write-up on the IACV, it might be in the stickies but it's only 3 bolts holding this in. It's next to the TB, if you use that link you'll know what it looks like. Just take it off use TB cleaner and wipe it down good. Put it back on and your set.
I just looked up CRC MAF Cleaner and the Checker Auto Parts (pretty sh!tty store) sells it near me. If you live near A Checker, Kragen, or Schuck's, go to http://www.cskauto.com/ and put in your zip code, then go to the Cleaners and Degreasers section and Electrical Cleaners subsection. It will tell you if the local stores carry it. I'm going to try this since I've cleaned my TB and IACV (and noticed little difference) but have never cleaned my MAF. I will post back after I do this.
