I decided to change my PCV valve today. Boy was it hell to install them back on. The material is so cheap that the midsection keeps breaking apart making it difficult to slip the hoses back in without breaking apart the pcv valve. Multiple times the PCV broke apart and the contents fell out which results me cursing in multiple languages. After an hour or so I finally managed to get that sucker on.
Lesson learned buy OEM PCV valve. I examined the old PCV which came from the factory and i couldnt separate it half like the autozone type can.
Hope my experience today can help you avoid the same problems i went through.

 

the one i got from Autozone worked fine. was a little tight but i simply tapped it in gently. hose went on with ease.

 

mine worked fine as well but i will agree that the quality is nowhere near oem

 

This would be the reason everything i buy is OEM Nissan and says made in Japan.

 

i got a purolator one from adavamceauto, worked just fine

 

last time i checked the oem pcv was $8.45? sometimes spending the few extra bucks will make things a lot easier.

 

Is the AutoZone unit blue (or half blue)?

Mine went in with no problem.

 

or sometimes common sense makes things a lot easier too.

 

I got one form Kragen, probably the same thing and it went in fine.

 

I got mine from EspanolZone (as my roommate and I call it) . Worked just fine with the small exception of a tight fit. Oh well ... next time I am DEFINITELY going OEM. Why not spend the 3-4 extra bucks and know for sure you are getting the perfect fit/match.

 

tighter fit = better seal. i'll stick with the AZ. plus the savings can get me 4 crispy chicken sandwiches from Wendys!!

umm no. I got one too and the thing was made out of hard plastic and would not fit into the hole at all. Almost went mad with the purolator one, so went to the nissan dealer and got oem one's and fit right in!

 

when installing if you would un-bolt the thing where the hose goes to( it is 2 bolts) it makes it extreamly easy to put it on. That hose is hard and does not bend that well. It take an extra 30 seconds and will make your jopb much easier.

i have an autozone one, and no problems at all, installing it.

 

I'm in the process of trying to intall my second Autozone PCV valve and once again cannot get the thing to stay in place when trying to reinstall. It keeps popping back up. I had the same problem last time but cannot recall how I resolved it.

Any ideas?

Well which is worse, starting new threads or bumping old ones? I think my issue is the grommet. There's barely anything left of it (just the very top ring really). What kind of symptoms could I have with the pcv valve barely sitting in the motor? I just ordered a new grommet.

 

A small vacuum leak.

Whenever I replace the PCV valve, I always replace the grommet at the same time.

 

I wonder if this is the cause of my rpm drop in D. Where are you getting this grommet? I had to order one online. Are you just buying a similar style generic grommet?

I have used many PCV valves from autozone and never had a problem.

 

You can get that grommet at just about any auto store that cells the PCV valve. I installed a Purolator PCV with a new grommet I got at Advanceauto 3 years ago and it has held fine. It was also much easier to install than the autozone PCV I previously had.

 

I replaced mine with one from the auto parts store without any issues.

 

Buy from AutoZone, cuz they're my second job.

 

Every PCV valve I have bought from AZ has felt a bit cheap. But I like the company, they usually have decent parts and prices.

 

I've tried to look up the grommet from on each of the big auto parts websites but I'm not coming up with an exact fit. Autozone listed one that looked similar but I had to order it. Advance had a ton to choose from.

Anyone have a part number of the generic one or the Nissan one? I have looked on Courtesy but they list a ton of grommets as well with no pictures. I'm guessing it's the "PCV Insulator?" on the Courtesy site?

 

I had to order the grommet (5339) at advanceauto for $2.99.

You quoted me telling you I have searched. I've Googled and looked on the big auto parts store websites. Advance gives a ton of results but no "exact fit" results. But thank you for the part number although it looks nothing like the other grommet I find that is supposed to be specifically for Nissan PCV's.

 

Orileys sells the gromet for about 3 or 4 dollars.
