What I replaced when I did mine recently is the upper strut mounts, the boots, and the isolator sleeves. The upper strut mounts and boots look like this:

The spring isolator sleeves are best replaced with this (wrap the bottom 2 coils on each):

Good luck.

No. The rubber part that is underneath the strut mount is the upper spring seat (the rubber part). Reuse it unless it's in very bad shape which isn't likely.

for some reason when i put the springs on it, the rubber part "upper spring seat maybe" does not cover the top part of the spring, letting the spring touch the car. so either i must have threw out the upper spring seat.. or im just not doin something right.

and thanks helpin me wit the boots and cables

You're missing a piece. you need the METAL upper mount. the part the mount bushing(the part that you said doesn't cover the top of the spring) and the spring isolator(which should go between the metal mount and the spring) attach to. Hope you didn't throw it away, it also has an angle on it, it has markings to line it up correctly. If you don't the spring will sit improperly at the top.

ok i called up my local nissan dealer, the guy on the fone immediatly knew who i was cuz i went by yesterday and asked him a bunch of questions. but he doesnt know wat im talkin about, (upper metal bushing). He said the upper spring seat should take care of the job. he doesnt know anything about a "metal upper mount". ok so far i have bought, boots, mounts and upper spring seats. cost me $200..
ouch..
then i bought rotors (25 a peice), mobile one syntheic, mobil one oil filter, whcih cost me another $100....just ranting....

It's not actually called a metal upper mount, could be called upper spring seat, etc etc. In the pics that Nex posted, see the cup on top of the spring beneath the triangular piece with the studs? that's what the spring should sit against, not the body. For future reference, NEVER throw away parts until the project is finished. And even then, double check. Digi-cams come in handy when you're disassembling things you've never taken apart before. If you take another trip to the dealer, I'm sure they'll have a picture you can point to and tell the guy what you need. Or if you have a salvage yard in your area then maybe it's worth it to go get some used strut assemblies to get any parts you're missing, depends on what the dealer charges for the part though. Or check out the classifieds here and see if anyone has some? Don't get discouraged, it's all one big learning experience Keep at it and remember, if it's got t*ts or tires it's gonna cause you trouble and cost you money.

EDIT:After I reread that, I see you've already bought the parts you were missing, so scratch my suggestions on that lol.
