Last night I was cruising down Sunrise Highway on Long Island (which is a story in itself) around 75 or so when some a$$shole in a brand new SC400 flys up my a$$. Grr, I thought as I tapped my brakes to shake him and used my E-brake a little to slow down without braking (NOT quick enough to be dangerous, just quick enough that it was better than just taking my foot of the gas). So now I'm doing about 60-65 and he really wants to get around me (even though he probably could of if he really wanted because there wasn't much traffic) so I get in the middle lane from the left just to see how far he's willing to take it. As soon as I move out of the way I gun it and so does he. And let me tell you something boy was I shocked... Neck and f*cking neck until about 105 when I had to slow down because of traffic. Of course later on, I got in front of him and used an Explorer to block him up at about 45-50mph. So he moved around to the far right lane and dropped it into third and then my non-responsive auto tranny (which got a beating last night, let me tell ya) and his higher hp in the lower powerband had me beat. But damn I feel pround of my car after that. I had no idea I could keep up like I did. We drove window to window for over a quarter mile. I can't wait to get a Supercharger...

those things are really quick... i think they post a sub 6 second or a 6 second 0-60... and its a 4.3L... its got a wide power band...
even with my 5spd i cant hang with them if they wana push it... i duno bout high speeds though... the SC400 was probably surprised/ frustrated haha i hate it cuz when some old dude drives a ferrari or something he just thinks he is faster than everyone else and they get so mad when you hang side by side or pass them... they dont seem to realize that shifting out of 6th gear might help, or that the gas pedal has more than 1/2 inch travel

 

Okay, looks like I was wrong about the BS... Very wrong. There is no SC400. And it was the 4door not the convertible making it the GS430, with the 300hp V8. I'm just glad I picked up on it before anybody else did... And yes, as soon as he downshifted (to third from the sound of it) around that Explorer, he jumped away from me. But hey, his car cost three times more than what I paid...

 

exactly.. one "minor" (compared to car prices) upgrade.. and you can more than keep up.. or you can even say miniscule, if you count NOS, tho thats not exactly constant power.

but they got us beat on customer service & quietness.. you got them beat on affordability & gas milage. :P

How do u know it was a 430 and not a 300?

 

1)That's pretty much the only thing I remember, was it was 4xx series. I knew what car it was when I saw it, I just goofed when writing it up the next day.
2)From the sound. It definately had the V8.

 

Were you going 75 in the left lane when he pulled up on your a$$? Why go through all the trouble of using the ebrake to get him off your a$$ when you could just get out of his way instead?

 

Yes I was in the left lane. It was a three lane road. Because at that particular moment I was pumped full of adrenaline (due to the other goings on that I've alluded to) and had no tolerance for tailgating jerks. There's no reason to literally be 1 foot off of somebody's bumper at night going 75. Yes, I'm an angry young white male.

and the GS400s have V-8s too... haha and they still go 0-60 in 5.8 =)

Why would you want to clog the fast lane? You might as well be driving an SUV. If other cars are traveling faster, then stay out of the fast lane. Slowing down in the fast lane when a faster car wants to get by is just a ******** thing to do.

 

Lexus did make a SC400 and SC300, V8 and V6.

Did you read what I said? I was going 75 at night, with a d!ck up my bumper. 75 in a 55 is not slow. It's not speed racer, but it's not slow. Especially when at the time there was only one other car around so he could have easily gone around me and stayed far away, and we'd never have crossed paths. Instead (he had just come from an on ramp) he had crossed three EMPTY lanes (the middle one had a minivan a little ways up but no big deal) to tailgate me. F*ck yeah I'm going to slow down and toy with his candy a$$. Word of advice, don't tailgate. Especially me. Maxima owner or not.

 

I am guilty of tailgating BUT only when some dumb @$$ is in the fast lane doing 75 in a 75 zone! Sure, that may be fine for most drivers but if you are passing someone and it takes you over a minute to do so you need to just push your right foot a little harder on the accelerator if someone is behind you! I do not tailgate imediatley either, only if they continue to pass cars at a rate slower than the average ageing process for humans! I usually wont do it at night due to the lack in visability but if someone is going slow enough and the other lanes are full I fully intend to continue in my ways.

The speed limit is irrelevant. The rule is: Slower traffic keep right. Period. People have been shot for doing such stupid things.

 

The rule is not to drive one foot off of somebody's bumper when the road is empty. PERIOD. Don't be an a$$, you know as well as I do that he had it coming to him. He had to go out of his way to tailgate me. People have been shot for doing such stupid things as he did. But then again, people have been shot for breathing.

 

I can also add that it is illegal to hold the left lane when cruising on the highway anyway. I heard of police giving tickets for that.

 

So imagine this: You're in a hurry, blasting down the fast lane, when some ******** going slow ahead of you decides that he is gonna slam on the brakes and go really slowly just for the sake of being an *******. So you're stuck behind this slowass for 40 miles, adding 20 minutes to your trip. Do you think that's perfectly acceptable and that you wouldn't be ****ed? That guy was absolutely correct to run up onto your *** if you didn't already get over before he got to you. You said that you saw him coming up behind you, GET THE **** OVER! If he would have stayed way back, then you wouldn't have known that he wanted to get by. So running up on a slow dumb**** who hasn't already gotten over is the only way to get his attention and prompt him to either speed up or get out of the way. It's simple.

 

Preach on! I totally agree with you. And it is true that it is illegal to stay in the fast lane unless you are passing cars. It is a PASSING land and by law is to be used for that sole purpose!

2001 sc400 has LS430 engine.
it's the convertible, i believe they only make 4 series no more 3's. i think the 2k1 sc400 only come with auto, so he cant really drop to 3rd..also, going fast isnt everything. people say put NOS?.. put supercharger.. is it worth it?

those people who drive nice cars think they are all that cause they are rich, just ignore them. nice story tho..

 

The 2k1 SC will be a 430, not a 400. It is just like the GS430 & LS 430. It will be auto only(for this year atleast).

FOR STARTERS: My confusion over what model it was is long past. It was the GS430. And you're right about them not offering a stick shift. Now I'm even more impressed by the Lexus.

AND He wasn't blasting down the fast lane. He crossed three empty lanes to get behind me. RIGHT behind me. As close to NOT behind me as he could be while still being behind me. If you drive the same way this guy did, then I hope you crash into somebody's a$$ while you tailgate the **** out of them (and nobody gets hurt) so you lose your car, your insurance company knows just how big of a risk you actually are, and the world can breath a sigh of relief. And we were only racing around together for about 5 miles, so I doubt I really screwed up his precious timetable. Now stop posting to this thread and let it die. I'm not going to read any more of your nonsense. I'm sickened by the idea that you think it's okay to tailgate and bully people on the road (who don't bully you first, that is.)

I know you had sorted out the car problem earlier, but it is a 430 none the less, not a 400. It is only "ok" to tailgate if they are not passing anyone and they are in your way - and also in the fast lane at the same time. WE UNDERSTAND that he moved all the way over to be behind you when he didnt have to, no one is argueing that point. We were, rather, discussing his motives for doing so and justifying his actions. If you are in the fast lane and not passing anyone you should be 1)given a ticket and 2)tailgated all the time you stay there!

and yes it is wrong to cruise in the fast lane but it happens...

I mean you could look at this two different ways....if its an open road and you're going at least 10-15 miles over the speed limit, then ya i think you have the right to stay in the left lane and if someone wants to go stupidly faster, then its up to them to pass you...of course then again if someone is tailing you its just plain stupid to brake just to annoy them or **** them off, thats how people end up getting hurt.

 

1) I was going 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. For me to receive anything but a speeding ticket is ridiculous. Any traffic encountered I overtook, so I WAS passing people. It just so happens at this point there really wasn't any traffic on the road and I'm not in the habit of switching lanes when I don't need to.
2) I'm not a newbie. I've been on this board for almost two years just under a different User name.
3) If you're on my ***, expect to see red.
