Which color temp. for HID?

OK....converting to HID's, but can't make up my mind about which color temp. to choose. 6000K or 8000K??

8000k look real nice they tend to be a real intense blue.. HOWEVER adn there is that is in caps for a reason. you have to pick wether you want function over form or the latter. Blue and Purple HIDs look lovely yet as far as the driver (you) is concerned you can hardly see 2 inches in front of you. You get more usable light out of 6000k and 4500k. think of it as a flourescent bulb opposed to different color bulbs.

lol point i was gettin it was that if youi commonly find yourself in inclimate weather i would not recommend it because blue+purple and higher light tends to reflect directly off fog/rain.making it very difficult to see anything

my son's maxima has 7000k HIDs and it looks great. If I were to choose, i'd go in between both to get the crazy blue effect but still have effective light output

I have 6000k HID's and they look nice. They have a slightly blue tint to them and the output is great in the rain. I'm glad I went with these over 8000k. I think 8000k may be a bit too blue. You definately wouldn't be disappointed with 6000k HID's.

6000k. Higher temp creates more blue color (as you know) and cuts on visibility in inclimate weather. 6000k are a nice color and give good light. No need for anything higher IMO.

I'd get 4300k they are like the BMWs and Mercedes. Oh yeah you might want to get projectors also to avoid all the glare you will give other people.

exactly, youll need to retrofit projectors, and thats not always the easiest job for a novice installer. My 7000k dont blind. I just re aimed the lights and still get the light output. They're for sale if anyone's interested!

im sorry, i didnt mean to give off the impression that i had retrofits. I just have the 7000k 9004 HIDs, not the projectors. I AE'd my headlights, and re aimed them, and never have had a problem. Retrofitting is by far the best bet in getting the most out of your HIDs, but they're pricy unless you get a steal on em, and its not just as easy as 1-2-3. Im sure theres org members that would do it for you for a fee, but thats even more money.

6000K is the highest id go for a daily driven car. Maybe 8000K definately not higher. I think with the 8000K you will attract attention from the wrong sort of people(cops), especially if you are not retrofitting. 6000K in my opinion looks good and has good light output.

6000k works well allround, put 8000k in your fogs to add some color.

6K HID is best for daily driver! 8K and higher is good for show cars to attract more attention.

4300k. Most visible light output. 5000k is ok too, since it's white from the start. 4300k bulbs need to break in a bit before they're completely white.

Here is a chart that might help you. I think any color temp higher than this is a waste of $$$$. The bottom is 3000K

4300 or 5000 look the least colorful which i like, but its really what youre looking for i believe the 5k will give u the best light output but if u go higher u get some nice colors out of it

For HID's, get projectors, and the 4300k's will look very colorfull when driving towards your car...i personally wouldnt want to see my headlights light up the road in blue or purple, white is the best, and thats what 4300k would do.

If i were to do it all over again i would get the 5000k i cant really see anything when it rains or when its wet outside. It looks good when its dry and it attracts a lot of attention but thats not worth it anymore to me at least.

it looks like the most sought after temp color is 6000K and alot say 8000K is useless for light output because its mostly the color but what about the 7000K lights i know custom enterprise sells the 5000K,6000K,7000K and 12000K and by the color chart above i like the 6700K so is the 7000K a overkill?

ok...this just might be me...but I like 8k. I love my 8k. But I do have a the E60 projectors retrofitted. So the output is pretty good. I like them. Projectors have alot to do with it to. I bought like 6 kits from automax95 for different cars, accord, civic, tc, etc... and we all go the same k, and mine looks the best. And I do agree. I bought a set of 12k for my mom and dad explorer...and yea visibility sucks...they like it but they don't know any better. It's just bright. I'm going to get them a smaller k...and it's probably going to be something in the 6k range. B/c they do get flashed alot...(not by girls). To make a long story short...get HIDs and projectors and nothing bigger then 8k
