check engine light on since y-pipe install

my check engine light came on when my old exaust system had corroded out. i replaced it with budget y and b pipes. its still on now with codes for the exaust. i am overdue for my car to be inspected so i need to figure out a way to make it go out for inspection. any ideas? thanks

pull the code(s). putting on a y and b pipe wont throw a cell. unless you forgot to plug in an o2 sensor

if the o2 sensors are bad yes you can just replace them. First pull the codes from your car, it will tell you exact whats wrong. Even if an o2 has gone bad, it will tell you which o2 sensor has gone bad.

since u dont know how many o2's i figure you didn't install your Y /B run the codes check to see if they are o2's or maybe p0420 for the cat failure. check to make sure the guys who did it pluged everything back in.

02's i think are near 100$ each. 3 total

When switching to the y-pipe you removed the pre-cats and therefore if you are only getting a rear o2 sensor code than your sensor might be fine. The pre-cats control emissions when the car is cold. To pass emissions warm the car up and then reset the code and keep it warm and go get it tested.

if the codes weren't erased before when you put on the new exhaust then they could just be the old codes from when your exhaust rotted out the first time.. could be you just need them cleared.

No. The pre-cats are in the stock y-pipe. If the lack of those pre-cats would cause a cel, it would be for the front o2 sensors. Just about everyone on the org is not throwing a rear o2 code cause they put an after market y-pipe.

If your throwing a code for your rear o2. Your rear o2 sensor is bad. Especially assuming you are using the same cat, and you were before.

If you want, reset the cel, and see if the code comes back. you might get lucky and it doesnt, if it does replace the rear o2 sensor, Reset cel, and keep driving.
