auto have a chance!!!

hey...i got an auto too...(just to clarify...i sit in NJ Rt3 lincoln tunnel traffic everyday...back and forth...there i feel better)...only tip i can give you is 'overdrive off"...and get a good launch...(ok that's 2)we have a better chance of a good launch statistically just cause not everyone knows how to drive stick right and they can get mad spin and give us an edge

O/D off makes no difference. Brake torque (hold gas and brake at the ame time) up to about 1400RPM. Then let off the brake and floor the gas. Then you just go.....

I found that the my best track trick is to get a GOOD launch. When my Auto was stock I ran a 15.4 in the 1/4. The same day I did that there was another MAX with TONS of Mods there and my times were faster, every time...

I played with the ways to launch.
1)Two foot (Get Green) and Slam GAS (with in Trans in Drive)
2) Two foot (get RPMs UP) Let off break (with in Trans in Drive)
3) Both of the Above with Trans in 1st gear.

Well I got my best time with Option 1 Two foot (Get Green) and Slam GAS (with in Trans in Drive)

Again this is JUST my opinion

What I meant was all I did when I ran my best Stock time was...
I used both feet one on break other on gas. As the tree got green I let off the break and slammed the gas.

Others have told me to get my RPMs up and do the same but I found that I spin the tires to much. I have dropped pressure on the front but they still spin.

excuse my retardedness

What about using the E brake and pushing the gas a little. then when the light drops floor it... also , when you said in first gear , did you mean you had it in 1 , then pushed it to 2 then into D or just left it in drive the whole time ? im stupid...

trust me that doesnt help. ur messing up ur tranny if u do that. also if u think it may give u a better launch, it doesnt... in fact when i tried it, i had quite a wheel spin. i also use both feet... but i rev it to 2300-2500 rpm, power brake, and then floor it. all this with od off and gear in 1... at 6k i shift to 2, and again at 6k shift to D. seems to work fine for me. just my $0.02

If you do that, your transmission will die a quick, bloody death. I mean put one foot on each pedal, while in "D", and rev the engineup to about 1200-1400. This uses the brakes to hold the car. Then when it's time, you let go of the brake and floor the gas.

So just keep holding both breaks and gas at the same time till it goes up to ? RPM and then let your car fly?
i tried lightly on my maxima and it made some GRRR noise...
somehting wrong or this normal?

The GRRRR sound is your brakes straining under the load of the engine, that's normal.

Apexi, I can't see how it puts excess wear on your trans - breaks are independent of drivetrain. That's what your differential is for.

I mean, when you're stopped at a red light (on the breaks) and idling, you're fighting the engine with your breaks. And the only thing you worry about there is carbon deposits.

I've been wrong before, but IMO I'd be more worried about killing them breaks!

I tried the trick, BTW, in a back parking lot behind a mall tonight. I only had about 600 feet so I couldn't run the quarter mile, but believe me, it proved the point just fine.

I actually had it at about 2000 RPM with the breaks when I let it go, I definitely need more practice but it was pretty sweet all the same. With the Khumo Ecstas, I felt no spin at all - it took the hell off as soon as I let up off the break.

I have tried 2 ways when I went to the track to run the 1/4. The first time I had my left foot on the brake and the right foot hovering above the gas, when the tree hit the last yellow light I let off the brake and floored the gas. my 60 foot was 2.5. The second time I held the brake and had the rpm's at 1500 and let off the brake and floored the gas again on the last yellow light, my 60 foot improved to 2.3. It is definatley worth the little bit of break wear to do it this way.

So you don't juss Hold the gas for a long time huh?
juss let the RPM pass 1 and then let it go?
what happens when u let the RPM go past like 4 or 5?

just wanna point out something.
I guess the traction control should be turn off. b'coz when it spins as u let go (no matter how good u launch, it should spin a bit), the sensor will cut off ur gas a bit, which is no good.

I hold the gas down from the time the tree says I'm far enough forward until the last yellow light lights up(about 2-4 seconds usually). I get the rpm's up to about 1500-1900 before letting off the brakes. If you get the rpms up to 4000 or 5000 and then let off the brakes(if the brakes can even hold back the car at this rpm or not I'm not sure) and hit the gas you will spin the tires for quite a while, dramatically decreasing your 1/4 time.
