How is it

this is for people that has more than 145,xxx miles on their car

my question is.. hows your car still ? does your engine make "not usual" noises when the hood is up ? do you think it would last a lot longer ?

I have 150,000 (approx) and it runs like new. HOWEVER, I bought it with 119,000 and have changed the oil every 3000, trans flush at 30,000, also added lucas every (3) oil changes, and once in tranny, run 89 in winter and 93 in summer w/ lucas in fuel once every month.
The owner before me owned it since new and did the same, minus the lucas treatments. I know from the Nissan dealership when I bought it gave me the printout, all of the services were done there before me. So If that helps.

Its perfect, mechanically, And I don't beat it, but I am agressive at times.

I am close to 160k and the engine is beatiful; just broken in
However, it's the chasis - the ride that worries me. Noise, clanks etc.

ive got a 182K and ive had no major problems other then the tranaxle(s). The only thing that bothers me is how loud the injectors are..I didnt seem to notice it untill someone pointed it out, i thought it was lifters, but after further inspection with a s tehoscope(kept thinking i was swearing?) my injectors sound like jackhammers lol..

oil changes are done every 3-4000KM, gear oil replaced every 60,000KM, BG44K used every 10,000KM, only 92 octane used. Car gets washed atleast every week.

265,xxx miles and still going strong-nothing unusual engine wise-i change oil at approx 5,000 miles, use whatever gas I want when i feel like it...washed-when i feel like it..you get the picture..but I don't BEAT on the car (that often :-))
I'll own it till it blows up, then I'll put a 5th Gen engine in....and go another 200,000 miles...
You can see pictures (nothing fancy) here:

98 auto 145k miles. depends on condition. if in good/working condition (esp mechanically) i would say $4k max. i would shoot for 3500

I would say about $3500-4000 as well. As long as its clean and makes no noises. Just look at the lower core support through the middle of the front fascia (bumper- the BIG MIDDLE HOLE) You will see a big brace coming from the center/ back of the car that bolts to the very spot. If its very rusty, it will need replaced soon. (about $800 at shop)

Don't worry, about knowing what I mean till you look. You'll know as soon as you see it. If no rust, it'll go for a long time. That rust spot is the only big 'issue' I can think of.

the VQ is just a great engine, it was basicaly cutting edge back when it was produced, its what Nissan became famous for IMO, ur car will go strong after 200k no problem as long as u don't abuse it and warm up the car every morning

190k here, on a 97 5sp. Don't get a 97 5sp... seems like a bad year for the 5sp. But other than the tranny, engine runs well, no complaints. Just the usual stuff: front and rear main seals changed, oil pressure sensor leak, crankshaft position sensor, knock sensor, cat converter, usual NGK platinum sparks.

Chassis is great, so is suspension and interior. No rattles/squeeks. Been to the track for hot lapping a few times and some autox. Good luck.

Jae
