Gas needle question??

heyy i just filled up my maxima and the needle was directly over the "E" bold line.. i put gas in and it filled to 15.5 gallons... my maxima can't hold anymore than 16 gallons..right?.. does the needle dive below the E and still remain driveable? becauase i know when you fill it the needle shoots above the F.. ha.. well this could be useful for me to know if any of you have had any experience running your maxima dry.. and i've heard of cars carrying "reserve tanks" of gas? perhaps an extra gallon of gas after the initial E reading? thanks guys let me know

the tank is actually 18 gal... the light usually goes on once you hit about 3 gal left... no idea why. i was also under the impression that is was 16 until i read otherwise... i drove the thing once til it hesitated on the highway and i filled it 17.3 gal

18.5 gallons, dummy light supposedly at 2.5 left. Driven mine (with new fuel filter) until it repeatedly stalled, filled up and only managed 16.5 roughly. Common issue is that low light doesn't work.

My light works just fine. Usually when it comes on and stays on I can drive about 50 miles or so, a little bit over 2 gallons. The needle will go well beyond the "E" mark before you run out but not as far below the E as it goes above the F. Almost every car's gas gauge is inaccurate; you will always get more miles driven on the first "half" of the tank than the last half.
