Car Just Shut Off!

Well... I arrived at a red light and my car just shut off!

The lights were still on...and the radio too.

I just started the car up again by turning the ignition.

what could this be?

do I need a new battery?

thanks

I had that and it was due to a bad crankshaft position sensor.

ckp( crank pos sensor) is a posible cause but not 100% so dont get that done merley because someone else did and it fixed the problem because You may have a different problem then sumone with the same symptom

Werd. I was stumped as well, and refused to try random things that others posted. I went to the Factory service Manual and went 1-by-1 by the checklist included. (Took a week for me to diagnose and the ckp was a "low possibility item" according to the manual.)

Here's where you need to start:

Those are the basic things to check out. Check each one and get back to us.

I had the same exact problem when I first got my Max and theres no need to waste time checking codes.

I can bet 99.9% that its the battery terminal. Check where the screws are around it and try to jiggle it a little for loosness. Also look for corrosion.

If its loose and the screws seem loose, you found your problem. You can either buy a new terminal or get bigger screws and drill bigger holes into the terminal to get a snug fit whitch will get the car to stop shutting off.

Maf

don't forget about the mass air flow sensor. that could cause this as well. if the sensor is not bad, the wires that lead into the plug could be coming loose (especially if you have an aftermarket intake). just my $.02
