and thats just to retrofit...add in bulbs, ballasts, and igniters for about 200 more.

so total ur looking at $750 not including labor costs.

there just isnt a big enough market of ppl who are willing to spend about $850+ for a nice set of headlights.

I'm still loving the AE'd glass headlights from ebay. Regarding the retrofits, I personally can't see spending all that money on a pair of headlights, but hey, it's whatever floats your boat.

this is most beneficial to the people who like to have unique items.. and who are looking to make something out of their Max.

80% of maxima owners Never do anything to their Max, especially performance wise.. they even try to skimp on maintenance.. I don't go by what people say, i take it on facts and what people actually end up doing, not what they tell everyone..
so out of those 20% that actually Do stuff there is 4% that do Serious mods, and then there's the ones who do serious Custom mods.. like turbo, custom exhaust, interior, motor build, one off custom body kit/paint/rims..

these lights are like a VQ35 swap for a 4th gen.. Everybody wants one, but nobody wants to pay for it.. so only a handful of people will have it/do it.

as far as how much the offer i got for duals.. Lets' just say it's over 1K..

--just goes to show you some people want to take their max to next level, whether it be for winning a show/having excellent light output when driving fast at night/or for the drive home.

then again to some people blowing $1K on lights doesn't compare after blowing $8K on the built motor and tranny..
there will always be someone who lead, the real pioneers, and those who follow them. life is exactly the same..

dam too much info..

i've been on here since 01, you've been on here a couple of months. i think i can bet my car that he wont get more than 3 retrofits paid. same **** happened with led tails.
same **** happened with e36's and euro grilles on 3rd gens. even rear disc conversions. everyone talks a good game but no one shells up the cash. and i speak for myself on that one too. i've been talking about a 3.5 swap and a 5speed swap. i have the 5 speed parts, but all the wear and tear crap that needs to be bought doesnt make it worth it for me to do right now. i drove my car 800 miles last year. WTF do i need a 3.5 or a 5sp for?

im interested in the extra set of tsx headlights you have I wont have the money for them until a week or two from now still spendin most of extra money on 00vi and a few other projects. but if you still have these at the end of the month i might buy the tsx headlights off of you to try a retro in my cefiros and great work on the retro to bad your selling them and getting a evo 8 (jealous ... wish i could afford one) are you keeping them max or selling it? if your selling it you might be able to get more money with the retro'd headlights unless its getting traded in. well good luck and I hope to hear more.

There is truth to what you said but sometimes I'm surprized by people that want and pay for retrofits. If you want something bad enough you will make the means to get it, even if you have to buy one part a month til it happens and sometimes you can just come across good deals that you will sacrifice for by eating ramen noodles for a week. In the end though having hids and excellent lighting pattern is worth every penny within reason. Anything over $800 would be excessive to me imo. BTW the lights look awesome.

I also think HIDs are well worth the money...to me its the most worth while thing ive EVER purchased for my car. Its for both looks and performance.

over $800 seems excessive but then again the TSX projectors are considered the 2nd best low beam projectors right behind the rediculously pricey s2000s. your paying a premium for the best. and to some ppl its at the point of diminishing returns while for others theyll stick two projectors powered by 50w hids spending in excess of $1500 (hidplanet.com/forums...they are crazy!)

I actually like the look of R34 style headlamp w/o retrofit.
but nice job on retrofit. How's the aiming coming along with retrofit??
putting projector on a headlight is easy, just aiming that b!tch is PITA.

I am new to the board and the I35/Max in general. However, having had several other cars that have been heavily modded, I think the $400 is a steal for a clean retrofit! Good job btw. None the less if someone wants more options and the ability to compare price, check out HIDplanet.com (I think that is the site anyway) When I started a project on my old Forester I was getting close to $700 just for the parts and the labor for all the work. So if you really want to do this then perhaps this is the way to go here! Just food for thought.

You can find projectors for anywhere between $100 (for the crappy E46) to $250-300 for various models. Generally, you'll have to pay between $150-225 for quality bixenon projectors from Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Porsche, Audi, Merc, etc. Ballasts and bulbs usually go for about $200. And then about $50-75 is fabrication materials like fibreglass, resin, bondo, sand paper, primer, paint, adhesives, solvents, etc, etc, etc. If you have some of those lying around, $50 or under, if not, $50-75.

BTW, I've been asked to do a number of retrofits. I've asked around on HIDplanet.com, the retrofitters on there generally charge $250 for a BASIC retrofit. That's with a single bixenon or xenon projector mounted into your stock housing, with the work covered up by a large bezel. Polished covers cost extra, blacked out on the inside costs extra, fibreglassing like I did to create an entire new fascia costs a LOT extra, and no one I know of on HIDplanet will even work with fibreglass like I did. It's pretty specialized work, and in all honest, requires massive man hours. I spent atleast 75% of my time on this project on the fascias. The remaining time was spent on creating a hand made wiring harness to operate the ballasts and hi/lo solenoid, mounting the projectors, and other misc bits. Many hours went into the fascias to get them as symmetrical as they are, contoured the way they are, smoothed down tiwh countless hours of fibreglassing, bondo laying, and sanding (I kinda cheated and used low micron glass bead media to sand blast them at one point for extra smoothness). To get a retrofitter to do this for you, you'd be looking at over $400 in labour for all the man hours on the fascia.

This project is very conceivable, but unless you are quite familiar with working with fibreglass, I wouldn't recommend it.

gwashoppa, you are missing the point. NOONE wants to pay what it actually costs to do them.

IF people were willing to prepay THEN he can have some premade
BUT to lay out the money and HOPE to have someone buy them
IS A BIG WASTE OF MONEY.
THEREFORE based on similar mods performed, he would be LUCKY to have a handful of people actually pay and not just talk ****.

i hope this helps you understand. if not, search for led tails and see how many people made millions off them.

Could you lay out a proceedure? I'm collecting projectors and about to buy the headlights for my car and I'm just wondering how much cutting etc you had to do to get them to fit.

is that $400 with everything i would need to install these, ballasts and anything else for example or just the headlights with projectors in them?
same question for the $550 offer.

tadah (The results) well I still have to take them off to seal them but they are aimed. I returned to a all chrome look since I think it flows better. Car is on ebay, item # if anyone is interested == Item number: 180080239777. Other than that these lights will be sold on ebay soon also. If the buy it now is used on my car auction, you get these lights as well, with the ballasts, bulbs, the whole works. Ok enough talk. get your popcorn out.
