JWT intake bad for the engine?

Is it true that the pop-charger-style intake is bad for the engine because it sucks air from the engine compartment, that way sucking in HOT air coming from the engine? so wouldnt that intake make you LOSE power from all the hot air? what about in temeperatures abve 80+?
also, how MUCH low-end power loss is there, really?

No, sucking in lots of hot air is better than sucking in a little bit of cold air. The underhood temperatures isn't that bad, and I've found my JWT cone to be good under all conditions. If you get one, you will not regret it.

I'm looking into getting an aftermarket intake, but don't really want to lose the low end power. Not sure whether to go with the JWT or the CAI. I'v read up on both, and still can't really come to a good decision. What do you guys suggest

CAI is better than JWT
the CAI brings in more cold air...but you have to cut a 3" hole in your fender..and it costs like $100 more...thats why im going with the JWT...but in the hot weather that we have here in cali...im wondering if it will be very bad for my engine or not...

I live in California, in Davis actually. Even when the temp is 100+, the cone still works well. Either the cone or the CAI will not give a huge power boost. In fact, you may not even feel it. The benefit is a nice growl during acceleration.

my opinion
The cone does suck in hotter air, but when you are in motion the air is pretty much the same temperature as the outside air. At idle however, the engine will pull in hot air...but then the car doesn't need much air to idle. I find that if there is a loss of low end power, it's below 1,000 RPM and how often do you rev below 1K (keep in mind that your car idles at 750). Anyways, the important thing is the throttle response and that's definitely improved with the cone versus the stock airbox.

my questions are answered
Ok, thats it, forget spending $100+ for a JWP PopCharger and $200+ for a CAI.....
IM GOING FOR THE OSCAI baby!
hells yes! a little tubing, a little screwing...and BEWM! all the low end tourque i need, and no need to remove stock air box. now all i gotta do is figure out how to route the tubing around my radiator since i have fogs...

I dunno...
for 80$ @ my local shop i got a "wanna be" stillen intake!! its awesome...a nice blue color and came with teh adapter and support beam! I went through the same thign you did...Performance with just an intake is minimal..don't stress about it!! What you will LOVE and has made my MPG horrible is the sound!! @ WOT its just awesome...its like i got myself a nice V8...seriously spend the moeney b/c for the sound ALONE its worth it...i know others will back me up on that one!

sound?
ill pass on paying $120 for sound...i can make those noises with my lips if i really need to...
but seriously, the OSCAI performs JUST AS GOOD if not better than a cone intake...and costs 70% less...what can i say, im sold. and anyway, the maxima is supposed to be a sleeper...oh wait, my exhaust already ruined that...heh.
my point is, im not going to spend $120 on sound...i'd rather spend $300 on a good y-pipe, that will give me all the sound i need...and the OSCAI will suffice for a cone intake.
