I was wondering if there is a difference between the flywheel in a Manual when compared to that of an Automatic?

Yes, they are quite different. The "flywheel" on an automatic isn't a true flywheel at all. The factory service manual calls it a "drive plate".

Both kinds of flywheel have a ring gear mounted on the periphery. This is the gear which meshes with the starter pinion gear when the engine is cranked.
