Unknown Mysterious Buttons[?]

I own a 1999 Maxima GXE and I was in the fuse section under the steering column to the left.
I came across something hanging down with what appears to be an up and down switch.

Here are some pictures of it:

Yes, it's hanging from the what appears to be inside where all the other buttons are located;(Cruise control/security light/light dimmer)

Does anybody know what this could be or do?
It's really bugging me. An helpful hand would be appreciated.
I was thinking it could be some sort of..climate or heat control?
Remember, 1999 GXE

Thanks guys,
John

Not factory. Where does it connect to?

I'll try to take a picture of it or make a video.

It seems to lead up to where the cruise control/security light/light dimmer buttons are.

Are you sure it's not factory? Maybe it is the dimmers for the odometer because my odometer lights have been out for the longest time and I couldn't figure out why.

be back later with some pictures.

I agree with you on this one. An old friend got indiglow gauges and the dimmer/change color switch was exactly like that.
Maybe they aren't in there now, but were at one time. Although, that wouldn't make sense if that switch thing is still there.....

People are lazy. Someone probably installed the gauges, then just took out the gauges when they got rid of the car and left the dimmer there.

Now. My odometer's are all dimed at night time

Does anyone know how to revert it so it's glowing again?
I can't see how fast I'm doing or what rpm I'm touching.
I thought the bulbs were out so I was going to go replace them but I wanted to check here first what that weird button was.

So any suggestions on how to get my odometer lights to light up again?

Sounds like your previous owner botched the install and/or removal of the "mad tyte ebay gauges yo" As far as your lights, your only real option is to remove the cluster and troubleshoot it. It either isn't wired properly anymore ie the leads were cut and used to power the "mad tyte lights yo", or the bulbs could be out, or the pcb behind the cluster could be damaged requiring an entire replacement. good luck

I guess I'm stuck taking apart the dash to see if the leads are cut or if I have to replace the whole thing. I'm hoping they're just that the leads are cut and I just need to connect the wires back to the old ones? Easy breezy.

Well, thanks guys.
At least I found out what that thing was.
You guys are the best.

Peace out,
John

Do you have the little dimmer dial to the right of the steering wheel turned all the way up?

Just checking the obvious.

Haha yeah. It makes everything else brighter/dimmer (AC components/odometer needles/etc) but the gauge faces are still without light.

I'm guessing it has to be the bulbs (which is odd for all the face gauge lights to go out) and/or some of the wires.

its the bulbs.. they were most likely taken out for the indiglo guages. if you left them in they would glow stock colors. just remove the guage bezel (two screws on top) and pull the bezel out. then 3 screws for the cluster. i had indiglo and always had that glare from the stock lights. decided it anoyed me and took the indiglo out. hopefully the bulbs were the only thing taken out and not the enitre mount. good luck
