Ok...may be everyone is tired of hearing this but I was wondering if anyone has taken out the old flex section from the stock y-pipe and swapped it w/ the aftermarket y-pipe. If so, did it eliminate the bees in a can or still sounded the same?

Try wrapping the flex section with header wrap. Go to you local speed shop and get some header wrap, and wrap the flex portion. Start before the flex, wrap twice and then move in one inch increments until the flex is covered. make sure you keep the wrap nice and tight. Get to the otherside and wrap it twice. Place a metal band clamp on each end to hold the header wrap in place. That will muffle the bee sound very nicly.

I have not heard of anyone swapping the flex portion before. Stillen Y-pipes are known for this noise and Cattmans are not.

My Warpspeed pipe had a leak in the flex section, and I realized it was much more than the "bees in the can"
I'm supposed to get a replacement lined flex section. That replace the flex section that came on the pipe.

Here's some directions that I was given

Easiest option and probably the cheapest is to get header wrap. My WSP had the dreaded bees in the can, but once I wrapped it with header wrap, it's gone!

Not to sound stupid to anyone. But what exactly is a Y-Pipe and where is it in relation to the cat and Exhaust Manifold?

I've got header wrap installed and tightened on the flex section but the sound is still there. I haven't thoroughly inspected it for leaks or what not but I will check out the retrofit page on WSP's website.

REad the FAQ's

But quickly it's the part after the engine that brings the headers into a single pipe for the cat.

The y-pipe is the piece that goes between the exhaust manifold and cat. The stock y-pipe has precats which are very restrictive. Replacing it w/ an aftermarket pipe (basically a straight pipe w/ no precats) can add 10-15hp at the wheels.

My cattman with out a flex section has bad beez in the can. It might be because I didn't use any gaskets from the exhaust manifolds to the y-pipe. What do you think? I'm sending the pipe to cattman and they are putting the flex in my y-pipe. Then I'll wrap the exhaust manifolds and/or the y-pipe in header wrap, to decrease sounds and increase performance.

Isn't it always recommended to use gaskets for any exhaust work? Or else, there would be some leakage somewhere.

I was thinking of just going to a local muffler place and just buying a flex section and taking off the stillen flex. If I do it, I'll let you know how it comes out.

Bees in the can

If you replace the flex section with an ordinary flex replacement you will have similar problems. Believe me the lined flex is the only way to go. See our web site. These flex sections have proven hard to come by, but very well worth it.My original WSP prototoype pipe on my SE had a moderate case of bees, we replaced the flex with one of the new lined ones and bees are gone.

How much is the new flex section? I'm interested.
