I just bought a CD changer, and I read somewhere that the MAXIMA's are already "Prewired" is that TRUE? If so where can I find the wires to hook up the CHANGER?
(98 SE)

Thanks

My Maxima is 96 GXE with an original radio and tape player.
I bought the genuine Nissan in-dash 6-CD changer from grubbsauto.com and it fits in just perfectly. It comes with a bundle of wires with connectors (forgot maybe four connectors). Just unplug the factory plug and plug in the additional wire bundle and it works.

If yours is an aftermarket changer, I guess there should be some adaptor available to joint the facory wiring and the aftermarket changer.

BTW in my GXE I didn't see any "pre-wired" connectors hanging there.

It is not prewired. You bought the OEM Trunk mounted Changer which will come packaged with the wires that you will have to run to the trunk. I did that myslef instead of giving the dealer $120 that he wanted for the install. It is easy.

Anyone know of any instructions on the net for the easiest way to run the CD changer cables to the truck? I was thinking about doing mine this weekend but I don't have time for it to be a long process.

Thanks!

It is not a very difficult process. It took me 2 hours but 1.5 hours out of that was trying to get the stereo out of the dash. That is the biggest pain. After you get access to the back of the stereo, it is smooth. Just plug and play. You have no chance of screwing up as the plugs will only go into their correct sockets. Also the Changer comes with decent instructions to run the cable. You run it under those black plastic things near your seat.

You mean the plastic door sill? (IS that spelled right?) Do I have to take out the back seat to get to the trunk?

Specifically, the left and right side of the car, where the carpet meets the doors is where to run the wire...there's plastic wire tubes just underneath the carpet....just take off the running-board panels, and viola!!!

Then, to actually get to the trunk, there are two plastic tabs on the lower part of the back seat. Pull the tabs at the same time upward and outward....and the bak seat lower section will come out.

Run the wire through there to the trunk.

If you have a non-Nissan changer, the only way to make it work is if it is FM Modulated and has the ability to run through the FM Signal on your radio. The quality of this is usually a little (not a whole lot) lower than a regular changer)

If the Changer is not a Nissan Original and does not have FM Modulation, then you need to buy the deck that goes with the changer.

CD-Changer Prewiring

I believe that only the SE and GLE are prewired, because the Nissan O.E.M. changer was added to the Bose sound system. I have a GXE and said hell with the changer, and put an Eclipse in-dash CD player in DIN. I think a new in-dash CD player would be best.

The SE is NOT wired. Atleat it was not for the 99s. I have a 99 SE with the C&C package and the Bose. I had to run the wires to the trunk!
