O2 sensor issues? Come inside. (Official thread)

I've had the same Oxygen sensors on mine car since I got it I just recently put a budget Y-pipe on and the front bank O2 sensor failed. This could have been a mistake on my part but I've noticed that the O2 sensor isn't protected like it is in the stock Y-pipe. How many people have had problems and how many miles are on your car or how many are on the Y-pipe?

I had to replace an O2 sensor a year after I installed my y-pipe. I don't think the y-pipe has anything to do with it. I think they just have a life expectency and that time has come.
I don't know for sure, just guessing.

O2 sensor?

first of all let me get this out, im mechanically dumb , im just that person who see's it, wants it, do a lil research and pay watever for someone else to put in. easiest person to make money off of. never try to be cheap with my car

Anyways can a bad O2 sensor cause your transmission to shift early or late?. i've seen a post on here yesterday which i cant find anymore about something similar to that. if your transmission is not bad but has hard shifts, sometimes late or it revs up before shifting can that somehow be a bad O2 sensor....

please dont answer ignorant or confusing, im just here to learn also

No it cannot. O2 sensor has nothing to do with shift points.

I have got the stock O2's on my car, as well as the y-pipe that is stock w/ 165000 miles. I ordered the CE clone pipe($170shipped) from the classified section, so I am planning on getting new ones and installing them with the y-pipe.

Shameless plug:
Anyone know the cheapest/best place to get the O2's from???

Thanks and sorry to hijack Jesse,

Who knows O2 sensors?

Anyone have a recommendation for a brand of O2 sensor? Denso, Bosch, NTK?

I'm replacing my rear sensor. Any thoughts or testimonials would be appreciated.

Last summer I replaces all 3 O2 sensors in teh car when I did the y-pipe. I had a code for the rear bank sensor anyways, so I figured I woudl do all of them. The original sensors were replaced with Bosch that I bought at the local auto parts store..no problems with them.

Maybe you should try checking the fluid level before pouring any in.

The reason I stay with them is because I've had harness issues before. And am too lazy to mess with that anymore.

If you buy "universal" type then they dont have the connector (thats why its cheaper). If you buy the "OE" type then they do have the connector (plug and play) - I bought the OE type (call them up to see if they still offer the 10% off maxima.org discount)

i have replaced o2 sensors on other cars with aftermarket stuff but had problems many times, no i only replace 02 sensors from the dealer. OE is the way to go.

Also, I recently had to replace sensor 2 bank 2 on the 98 which had only 89k miles. After awhile, that CEL was bothering me.

No need to splice etc... The OEM replacement sensors come with end connectors, just plug and play.

I have replaced all 4 of my sensors on my Cali Maxima and have been really happy without the codes for a long time.

I pulled a P0138 code, and can't seem to find any problem with the wiring itself, so I guess it must be the O2 sensor, right? Anyone got advice on something else to check before I go ahead and replace the sensor?

One more question: Since the harness mysteriously disappears into the body, and the wiring is not easily traced, where all should I be looking for bad wiring between the O2 sensor and the PCM? I'm afraid I may be over looking something...

Please and thanks.

I had an O2 and EVAP recall on my car, got them replaced years ago and installed my y-pipe right after they put in new sensors. So I had new ones in right when I put on my warpspeed.

Did anyone not have O2 sensor issues sometime after installing your Y-Pipes? I was planning on having the Budget Pipe put in on Wednesday but now Im thinking it might be wise to just get sensors too. If the 02 sensors go, does it have any negative affects on the car? I would imagine gas consumption would probably increase, correct?

Its much easier to replace on an aftermarket y-pipe since you have more room to work with and since they were previously removed from the stock y-pipe (huge PITA trying to get them off the stock pipe) - apply anti-seize to the thread before you reinstall them so they come off easier next time

Bad O2 sensors = bad performance & bad gas mileage (car will still run)

Also, When looking at the Y-Pipe I noticed that on the aftermarket pipe, the sensors are terribly exposed to the elements. Am I the only one who feels that they are susceptible to damage from road debris, snow, and rain?

I need some help!!.... I have to go through inspection next month!! and my check engine light has been on for awhile so it was because my Cat. was bad which I replaced (magnaflow cat.) and my y-pipe which is (Eastern Cat.) AND I bought 3 brand spanking new OEM O2 sensors @ like $120 each!!!....SO I go to get my mechanic to turn the check engine light off...he did....and it turns back on like in literally 15 seconds...I'm pissed!!! he says the O2 sensor code was sayin' whatever.....so I talk to another guy and he said since I have a Air Intake system (Weapon-R...its awsome!) my NEW sensors are getting thrown off...and I have to put my stock Air filter back on (which is time consuming!!) and THEN turn the Check Engine light off, THEN (if it doesnt turn off) take it to get inspected.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! .....anyway has anyone else had this problem, and does this all sound right with the air intake thing????? cause I dunno??? someone please....school me with knowledge!

3 weeks after installing my cattman y-pipe, my service engine light came on. I pulled codes: 0303, 0404, & 0109. Apparently the last two codes don't exist. (or I counted wrong). I know the 0303 is linked to my front left O2 sensor. anyway, I just reset the CEL today. If the light doesn't come back on, should my max run fine?

I would go to Autozone and have them use the OBD II scanner to verify that in fact no ghost codes are being recognized. I believe you can still fail inspection even if the check engine light has not turned on. Autozone will do it for free. Chances are that you messed up the sensor when removing it, you may have to get a new one.

i knew my trip down to Autozone on Broad st. (in Philadelphia) was going to be a waste. The damn guys that work there don't know anything about customer service and cars in general.
