Shifter Position Indicator Lights

As far as I know it really hasn't been discussed much (although I think it has been discussed a little), but what is the deal with the extra lights on our gauge clusters to indicate which position the automatic shifter is in? The spots are there, there simply isn't bulbs in those spots. All the circuitry is there and it gets it's signal from the existing wiring harness.

So why don't we have bulbs there and/or why wouldn't they work?

This would be especially useful to someone like myself who has an aftermarket shifter setup and has no indicator on the center console (even though I don't look at the shifter and can simply tell by what position it's in)

For overseas models. and our cars do not get the signal there. If you look at the back of the cluster, you will see empty spots for the corresponding slots in the harness. Also, the black portion of our clsuters do not have teh cutouts, so if we had a signal coming to the bulbs, the light wouldnt come through unless holes were cut/ the cluster was changed. I was goin to try and change it over myself and see if I could get the cluster from overseas but I figured it would be too much hassle.

Yeah I suppose you're right. I didn't know there weren't any cutouts, I simply assumed they appeared "transparent" like the other lights' spots.

Oh well, thanks for the reality check.
