Where is the Park/Neutral Position switch located?

I still cant figure out my 10-03 Park/Neutral Position switch code that I have since I converted to 5speed and the CEL is always on due to that code. Anyone know how to solve this code? Thanks.

Its bolted to the tranny, has 4 wires comming out of it, on the drivers side edge of the case close to the bottom, looks like a round peice of plastic set into the case.

Thanks but I did all that and I still get a 10-03 code.

Instead of wiring those 2 wires to the clutch pedal, I wired them to a on/off switch(car can only be started when that switch is activated just like the clutch). My reverse lights work fine. I dont know what else to rewire to get this code gone.

Heres a pic of the harnesses. The harness on top with the 2 red wires is wired to the clutch pedal switch. the one below it with the one black wire comming out of it is wired for the reverse light.

Im not shure what the green harness is for and not shure what else to do to get rid of the 10-03 park/neutral position switch code. Any help is appreciated.

Also, why does HLH0501 say to remove the cruise unit?

.32 Look into the upper driver side area against the firewall.
· You will see the cruise unit.
· It is the only electronic item in that area.
2.33 Remove it.

Does me mean remove it to get more room to work or remove it because I dont need it and does it have anything to do with my CEL?

ok, I will need to check wiring diagram on neutral safety switch. It's been long time since I did my swap. But when HLH0501 says to remove the cruise unit, he says that so you can have more room to work with when you're installing clutch master cylinder. You can always put it back on. He didn't mean to remove it completely and it doesn't have anything to do with CEL.

yeah I have to get my emissions tested by june or july, so by than I would like to fix the problem.

On top of that I have the wires wired to my switch on my clutch pedal, the switch that is activated when the clutch pedal is pushed all the way down.

yeah that is the reverse and neutral sensor cord, so I'm thinking splicing the neutral wires into the inhibitor switch, the one that has 8 cords or so on it.

The only reason I say that is because the trouble code only comes up when the signal of the park neutral position switch is not changed in the process of engine starting and driving.

"After a quick look in the fsm I believe it is as simple as running a wire between the 5-speed ecm terminal #22 and the G/W wire on the 5-speed R/N switch, and also have the Black wire on the R/N switch running to ground. I really think it's that simple, you should try that..........."

Pin 27 on '99's as you pointed out, according to the fsm anyways. The kid who's conversion I did never ended up coming up, plus I didn't even think of this at the time but the r/n switch that came with his tranny was junk, I couldn't hook his reverse lights up at the time, and I'm not sure if he ever got another switch.

Nismo, please keep us posted on how this works out, I'm fairly certain this is all it takes to eliminate the 10-03, leave all of your previous wiring in place for the starting/cruise aspect of things. here's a link to the other thread, though the important part is re-posted above....http://forum.maxima.org/showthread.p...highlight=pick

are you saying that running one wire to ecu and other to ground fix that problem with P/N switch?

woohoo! That's awesome, glad to hear it worked out for you I was almost certain it would.

And remember guys, I know this shouldn't be a problem, but since the automatic ecu is supposedly capable of throwing this code, I don't want people thinking this will work on an auto ecu, this is ONLY for those with a 5-speed ecu.

yes just as KRRZ350 said,

for probably 95-98(?) running a wire from the 5spd ECU pin 22 to the G/W wire on the 5spd trans and grounding the black one from the 5spd trans harness thing solved the problem.

For 99 I don't know.

But if the moderators are nice, they can please post this in the stickies with the 5spd swap directions.

For '99's it is the same except you use pin #27. I bumped up the other thread in the all motor forum since it will be helpful to many in there who probably won't see it in here.
