When you changed to the 17" rims what kind of change did you notice ?? Handleing better ?? Faster ?? slower ?? Are they heavier rims then the 96 se rims ?? much of a wheel gap ?? tell me everything

When I changed, the first thing that I noticed is that the wheelgap became more noticable, but no one has noticed that, they only comment on the rims themselves. As for handling? ABSOLUTELY NIGHT AND DAY! In the dry, these tires (Pirelli P7000SS) won't squeal and in the wet, they grip the road like you would not believe. The car got ever so slightly slower, and it got alot harder to get wheelspin off the line, but I don't know if that is because of the increased grip of the tires or the increased wheelsize. I feel alot more confident driving the car now. They tire/rim combo appears to actually be a little lighter than the '95 GLE (those ugly things that have little rhombuses in them). Since the suspension is STILL not on, the wheel gap is pretty noticable to tell you the truth. Anything else?

I have a question.

I can tell from the PIC I have seen. Are they Anniversary rims or straight Gen 5 SE?

Did you pick them up on trade in at a tire store?

What is a good cost for them (in other words, what did you pay for comparison)?

I know I read it in a post but what tire size?

I have a set of Progressive springs to install (once I can get some KYB/AGXs) that will drop the car about 1.5". Will your combo still fit with that drop and get no rub?

Thanks
Jimm

I HAD AE rims, my brother destroyed two of them and both me 4 SE rims in return. Personally, I like the SE rims better now, it matched the silver accents around the car well. I got the SE rims from him, whereas he got them at the dealership. I got the AE rims off of E-Bay back in December I think. Many people have been selling them lately. If you are going for just the rims, aim for about 600-750 dollars, with decent tires, about 1200.NOTE:THE RIMS FROM THE DEALER ARE $577 EACH, TRY E-BAY OR THE FOR SALE FORUM BEFORE GOING THERE. I have 225/45-17s on the tire, only because 225 was the maximum recommended width for the rims size 17X7, but numerous people have put 235/45s on without a problem. The 235s will cause less wheelgap. A 1.5 inch drop will cause no rub, but that may not be enough for you to truly be happy. I'm thinking that a 2.0" drop will tighten the looks of the car more.

I agree with the 2.0" drop idea but I live in Houston where we have outrageous potholes and I drag the reciever hitch on driveways if I am not careful now. If I drop more than 1.5 AND eventually put the ground effects, I will be hitting bottom too much.

Do you know of anyone running 245/45/16 or 17 at all?

Off hand, no. However, alot of people around here ride on different size tires. Check around.

Why so small? You truly must have NO sidewall at this point.

You feel you have better handeling on dry roads around turns and how much slower did it actually get...i have 96 se rims now the 15" with pretty good tires on and dont squeal at all around hard cornering and im thinking of either 97 se 5 spoke 16" rims i like or your style 17's...i dont wanna go so heavy ?

Matty: I haven't heard them sqeual once, and every once in a while I really push them. In the rain, the difference is so substantial that I can't even compare old to new. The 0-60s went up about .15 seconds and the 1/4s ?

Tifosiv122:Yeah, those are really low profile for that size. BTW, what does your screen name mean?

Here is a pic of the rim/tire...its not as low as you think. The work Tifosi is Italian for "Ferrari Lover" or something of that sort. V12 is the engine and well, I used AOL and signed up tifosiv12 and then canceled the account.. I signed up for aol again and had to use tifosiv122, so now its my name on everything.

I am not a fan of the 5th gen rims...I like the 97 SE rims better...but why don't you go aftermarket?

I probably will. But rims will be one of the last things that I do. I want to get the engine and exhaust stuff done first. I have springs but no struts right now. When I do that part, I will start looking at rims.

I would vote 2K+ SE rims. They really do look good on the 4th gens, the 16" rims, though good looking, really don't distinguish the car from every other 4th gen.

Hey my brother..........

I hear you about the wheel gap with 1.5 in drop. 2" will make the Max look sick!!!!
Anyway I'm considering Coil-overs for next year, I really like the 2000 SE wheels (17") and with H&R's it kinda reminds me of a Bimmer with Sport package. Although after a Stillen front spoiler I'm gonna wanna go a little lower. But I'm watching Medicsonic, keep up the good work. And represent for the 95-96 Maxima's in Black Emerald.

Lookin good! Think I can get a sip off of that bottle??? Geee, I'm sooooo thirsty!

Hahahahahaha

Your car is tight, and again I wanna give up some props I've been watching you mod your Max and its coming along nicely. I gotta get a front lip, but I'm currently considering a 97 front conversion so not sure what lip to get. Out of curiousity are you gonna do NOS and SC or will you make up oyur mind in the future. Both seem a like a lot for the engine especially when teamed to an automagic.
By the way, what year is your car? 95 or 96?

I'm 96 and I have a manual.

'95, GLE(automatically an auto). As for NOS and SC, not gonna happen. The NOS is a toy, and a cool one at that, but I like the relative uniqueness and oohs and aahs that you get when you pull the hood of an auto and a SC is sitting in there.
