Y-Pipe -> Cat Bolts

So as I understand it, it costs about 15-30 dollars to heat the bolts and take them off between the ypipe and catalytic converter. So I was curious if I'm doing something wrong, all three shops that I went to today told me 70-100 dollars for the two bolts. I told them that the bolts were probably rusted to the flanges and that just WD-40 wouldn't do it. I asked how much it'd cost to heat the bolts and get them removed and got the previously mentioned prices.

Somebody help!! How else should I explain it to shops? Also how hard will it be for me to do it myself? I have a torch but need a bottle, what all needs to be done to remove the rusted to **** bolts?

Thanks

They can just cut the bolts, drill through and replace them. Should be more like $15-20. They do that type of thing all day long, no reason for those astronomical prices.

Alright thanks fr33way. I personally cut and drilled out my cat bolts for my catback, but I dont feel like being under the car for that long again, plus 15-20 isnt bad. Alright well I'll keep looking.

try going to a mom and pop's exhaust shop and have them put the y-pipe in for you. Mine was really rusted and they ended up just cutting it off. Only charged $100 to put it on

Nahh I'm definatley going to put it in myself, DIY (excluding rusted bolts). Plus I just bought some tools that were gonna help with removing it so I'm not going to let them collect dust.

yeah if they do the bolts for cheap just put it on yourself. Fr33way is right. It's easier for them to cut and drill it out. I tried and took me an hour to get a few inches. Sucks not being able to lift the car as much as needed. Most shops will do that but some actually charge a lot as you said.

Just have them replace the entire Y for you. for me the guys at a shop right by house told me it would be $80 to heat and change the bolts(just the bolts - $150 to change the Y and cat - just labor), i took it to lous custom exhaust and the guys over there told be $80 to change the entire Y and cat. What a big difference.

Went to two shops today got quoted 30 and 50 dollars. I think I'm going to the 30 dollar one. Anyone ever removed rusted bolts on the cat flange themselves? I'm contemplating it at that price. How much would it cost for me to do it myself and how mechanically inclined would I need to be?
