Taillight Removal

What is the proper technique for removing the stock tails? I bought red/clears and hope to put them in along with clear corner bumper lights this weekend. I want to do this so that I can save the stock outers if I ever choose to go back.

looks like you have red/clears in your sig???

there are 4 bolts u need to remove from the inside. remove the carpet covering that area. (dont drop anything while ur back there) then use heat gun or blow dryer and slowly pry out taillights. you can use a flat screwdriver with some cloth over it

bend back that stuff in the way of your outer tails, i just ripped the bod clips out. theres 4 nuts that are obviously part of the taillight setup. take those off and push from the inside. you really have to put some elbow grease into pushing them out, theres a soft headlight type seal on it so water doesnt leak into your trunk. when reinstalling the new lights i'd suggest putting a small amount of sealant like RTV back on the new lights so it doesnt leak. the inners are the same but the nuts are exposed and you can see them easily, just unscrew them and push rtv those when reinstalling too. do you need to know how to do the clear corner bumper lights too? the back piece just pops out , then unscrew the front piece and remove them, and reinstall the new ones

you can use a heat gun but slow even pressure for like 30 seconds does the trick too, the sealant never actually hardens like headlight stuff, it stays soft, by the time actually heat it up and push, you could have had them out already, but you can use the heat gun/blow drier if you really want to

Where can you get the RTV? At a Home Depot? Does it matter what type of sealant I get?

rtv is at autozone or whatever your equivelent is. just get a little bottle, you dont need much. it costs like 5 bucks. the only reason you need it is cause most of the sealant comes off on the taillight

and if you've ever seen pimp my ride, xhibit says all the time... there is no auto in home depot lol. stick to rtv, i wouldnt go using caulk or anything

oh and rtv comes off REAL easy. so when its time to swap back out it'll be nice and quick

Like everyone said, take your time and be easy with them. I wouldnt suggest using a screwdriver to wedge it out, you might crack the corners.

?? no you wont. if you dont use a heat gun or blowdryer you will be forcing it. if you heat it up it will slowly become like soft putty and will easily come off. the screwdriver is merely a tool to help you pry, nothing more. should not be forced. no force is necessary and you dont wanna force cracking anything

So I was planning to install the red/clears and the clear bumper lights today, and I go to Autozone to get the new bulbs...(amber bulbs for clear bumpers...right?) And they tell me that they only have them in clear.

Where can I get the damn amber bulbs for the blinkers. Do I need to order them online? If so what are the bulb numbers for all 4 bulbs? (front blinker, aux light...rear blinker/aux light(red))

If you ordered them from ebay, they come with the amber bulbs.

By the way, the fastest and easiest way to get them out is to remove the 4 bolts, pound on the screws in the back a little bit (don't be afraid to hit them) to the point where you can see the housing inching out, then take a cloth covered flathead and pry it out from the outside. Be sure to pry GENTLY and work around the outside of the headlight. It comes right out.

Good luck!

stupid autozone people.. you probably gave them your car make and model and stuff and asked for amber ones right? assuming you did that, ask them for the bulb size for your bulbs and just go over to the bulb rack and find amber bulbs in that size. usually amber bulbs dont come up in their computers when they enter maximas because our cars dont come stock with amber.

That is exactly what happened. Ill see if they are open tomorrow and will run by there and check. Also do you know the bulb numbers? I think that the aux bulbs are 168 and the blinkers are 1156/1167...can anyone varify even though they prob have them on the comp at autozone.
